This Friday we celebrate the day of the Wohnstraße, an initiative of Space and Place to use and design public open space together!

We will have:

From 7pm you can show, perform and try out whatever you like in 5-10min slots: poetry, readings, music, clowning, magic tricks or comedy!

From sunset to sunrise the body is a passive protagonist, collapsing and rising up in an endless loop, passing out, passing by, unnoticed by the eyes of others, becoming a still object, part of the scenario, of cold, dusty facades. It constantly falls, fails in every attempt to cross a space, falls asleep, without dreams.

Alle zwei Monate öffnen die Künstler*innen der Semmelweisklinik ihre Ateliers für neugierige Mitmenschen. Fixpunkt ist das Special Event - jedesmal anders, jedesmal neu! Diesmal finden die Open Studios zeitgleich mit Open House Wien statt - ihr könnt Euch auf Architekturführungen mit Open House freuen und auf Expertenführungen zu den Open Studios mit uns.

Die Führungen von Open House finden regelmäßig alle 20-30 Minuten statt. Die Führungen zu den Ateliers finden um 11 / 13 / 15 h statt, und um 17 h und 18 h zwei Surprise Events / Specials.

Unser Haus steckt voller spannender Geschichten. Eine davon könnt ihr am 28. August um 15:30 auf Ö1 hören. Wir freuen uns, Teil der Reportage in der MOMENT-Reihe „Stadtverbesserer“ zu sein.

Über neunzig Künstler*innen haben hier ihr Atelier eingerichtet, und viele weitere engagierte Menschen tragen dazu bei, dass großartige Veranstaltungen möglich werden. Wir bieten regelmäßig Ausstellungen, Konzerte, Workshops und offene Jam-Sessions an – und vor allem viel Raum für Beteiligung. Die Semmelweisklinik lebt vom gemeinsamen Engagement.

Hört rein und erfahrt mehr über unsere Entstehung und den kreativen Prozess. Die Sendung ist Teil der Themenwoche „Die Stadtverbesserer. Von engagierten Menschen in Österreichs Städten“.

Our house is full of exciting stories. You can hear one of them on August 28 at 3:30 PM on Ö1. We are excited to be part of the report in the MOMENT series “City Improvers.”

Over ninety artists have set up their studios here, and many more dedicated people help make great events possible. We regularly host exhibitions, concerts, workshops, and open jam sessions — providing plenty of space for participation. The Semmelweisklinik thrives on collective engagement.

Tune in to learn more about our origins and creative process. The broadcast is part of the theme week “City Improvers: Stories of Engaged People in Austria’s Cities.”

Co-creators wanted!
At the beginning of October, another studio will become available in our self-managed art and cultural center. We are looking for individuals / teams experienced in collective work with a desire for community and collaboration who would like to make their art in Semmelweisklinik and also participate in the project.

Hard facts: 40 m2 / 1st floor not barrier-free, north-facing, linoleum floor. Room height 4 m. Water available in the adjoining room. WCs on the ground floor and 2nd floor. Not suitable for noisy work, due to noise-sensitive neighborhood. Costs: 436 €/ month warm + cleaning fee 10 € /pP/m, for collectives 30 €/m.

Phantasm is a site-specific glass installation inspired by the poignant history of the Semmelweisklinik. In a period of two months Zhenya Kaleva consulted archives, read articles and listened to stories. Against this backdrop, she created her own imagery representing the emotional experiences of children and women who found shelter at the Klinik - warmth, abandonment, anonymity, amicability.

Zhenya is interested in various aspects of contemporary art. Her main interests are in the field of site-specific installations, stained glass, three-dimensional glass forms, land art as well as murals and street art. Through her work she explores topics related to the presence of humans in nature, human relations, the absurdity of society and the collective memory.

Sisters Oneka & Daphne von Schrader create performative sound objects as part of their residency. Their starting point is self-medication and medicine in the age of dietary supplements. They examine objectives like healing, consumption and optimisation as well as physical experience. The documentation of their self-experiments sets up the body as a base for artistic reflection, whereby symptoms become songs and clinical pictures become abstract landscapes.

Die Schwestern Oneka & Daphne von Schrader schaffen im Rahmen ihrer Residency performative Klangobjekte. Ihr Ausgangspunkt ist die Selbstmedikation und Medizin im Zeitalter von Nahrungsergänzungsmitteln. Sie untersuchen Themen wie Heilung, Konsum und Optimierung sowie die körperliche Erfahrung. „Wir gehen vor die Hunde! - oder mit den Hunden?
Performt durch Körper, die diverse Schwänze schwingen, wie Sirenen aufheulen und natürlich bellen – denn es will geredet werden! And never forget, Hunde, die bellen, beißen nicht!  Aber den Letzten beißen die Hunde!“ 

Die multidisziplinäre Künstlerin Marie David .nixxe setzt ihren Schwerpunkt auf Aktions- und Performancekunst. Zusammen mit Leonie Wegner performt sie „Swanz“ um ein Wortspiel und ihre Mehrdeutigkeit herum.

Das heiß diskutierte Patriarchat durch die Luft wirbeln, gegen die Wand klatschen und drauf ‚rumhampeln, aber keine Angst, es kommt was Besseres danach.

“We’re going to the dogs! - or with the dogs?
Performed by bodies swinging various tails, howling like sirens and of course barking - because they want to talk! And never forget, dogs that bark don’t bite! But the dogs bite the last one!”

The multidisciplinary artist Marie David .nixxe focuses on action and performance art. Together with Leonie Wegner, she performs “Swanz” around a play on words and its ambiguity.

The hotly debated patriarchy is whirled through the air, slapped against the wall and fidgeted with, but don’t worry, there’s something better to come afterward.
