Marlene Heidinger , a multidisciplinary talent and todays Artist Spotlight!

Marlene (*1996, Vienna) is not only a painter but also a curator and filmmaker. She studied under the renowned Judith Eisler at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the École de Communication Visuelle in Paris. In 2024, she completed her master’s degree in curatorial studies at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna.

Her work draws inspiration from everyday interactions, sociodynamics, and the tension between aesthetics and politics—offering a fresh take on complex topics with playful, yet thought-provoking, visuals. Working across still and moving images, Marlene continually explores new dimensions of storytelling.

Jakob Kolb ★ On Bells

Our Saison Starts with the Artist Jakob Kolb
and his new series „Paint“!

“Paint” is a series of paintings driven by a rhythmic and intuitive approach, blending colors into dynamic abstract composition.

Jakob Kolb, born in 1992 in Styria. After completing his art studies in Barcelona, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Daniel Richter from 2017 to 2023.

In addition to painting, sculpture, and installation, he also curates in various art spaces (Schaumbad Graz, Vienna Contemporary 2024, Kunsthaus Weiz, etc.) and is active as a musician and producer under the alias “On Bells.” His works have recently been exhibited in solo and group shows in venues such as EXILE Gallery, Kunsthalle of the HFBK Dresden, and Parallel Vienna.

Who is Louise Vendel?

Louise Vendel .vende(1993, France) is a visual artist.

Inspired by inter-species relationships and the way we make the world together, Louise Vendel develops an artistic practice that highlights clues to the complex relationship between man and his environment.
Through her drawings and installations, she strives to create a dialogue between the traces of wild and natural behavior and those of our instincts, blunted by our Western comfort.

In her work, the viewer’s perception of space, the materiality of the object and the codes of museography are components to be considered in the same way as the charcoal she applies, the pastel she blurs and the ceramic she models.

Louise Vendel aims to highlight the sensitivity that emanates from these hybrid situations, which combine human and non-human behaviors and amenities, symbols and signs, creating scenes that are strange, pathetic or even cruelly banal.

Annie Lapin is a contemporary artist known for her innovative approach to painting. Born in 1978 in Washington and currently based in Los Angeles, Lapin's work is currently on view at König2, curated by Robby Greif.

Lapin's painting process begins with pours of pigment on linen, allowing for the physical movement of paint. She then adds layers of imagery, often generating compositions through a Rorschach-like response to the physical paint. Her approach is to create almost random forms without necessarily considering their significance, drawing from her visual memory and the archive of cultural detritus online.

In her current body of work, Lapin has flipped the canvas during the painting process, creating a dual effect of inverting the directions of production and perception, as well as the meanings conveyed by each. This technique results in the background merging with the foreground, objects merging with subjects, and light merging with darkness. The result is a dynamic yet indistinct depth that simultaneously emerges and falls apart, challenging traditional pictorial categories.

Lapin's work reflects a contemporary approach to painting, embracing the fluidity of meaning and perception. Her use of innovative techniques and her exploration of the boundaries between foreground and background, subject and object, and light and darkness, creates a sense of dynamic movement and complexity in her paintings.

This exhibition at König2 provides a showcase of Lapin's unique artistic vision, inviting viewers to reconsider their preconceived notions of painting and visual perception.
