“Pain made me discover”

The first time I heard about the Pilates Method was about 1975 or 1976 at the beginning of my dancing career while I was watching at modern dance class by Luis Gonzales at the Laban Centre, London. A student was having back pain in the class and Mr. Gonzales suggested that she should go to Mr. Alan Herdman for Pilates classes to condition and stabilize her back. At this moment I made a mental picture of the name Herdman and Pilates.

My General Practitioner sent me to several specialists and I was given many types of treatments. However, my back problem persisted. Strangely enough, not one of those doctors bothered to analyze my posture or to suggest a corrective exercise programme for my back. I myself noticed that I had certain spinal and shoulder girdle misalignments: My upper back was over-flexing and my lower back was over-extending. I also noticed that the muscles of my upper back were unusually tight and over-developed for a dancer and that I was holding my head too far back.

I came to the conclusion that I had some work to do. I must strengthen all the muscles that are responsible for stabilizing and flexing my pelvis and lumbar spine, and stretch all the muscles that are responsible for stabilizing and extending my dorsal spine. I therefore developed an exercise programme based on the Pilates method to deal with these problems. Bodyhood Pilates was born!

Remember, protein helps... but it is always a good idea to balance protein-rich foods with green leafy salads. Why?

Eating protein in excess decreases the water level in your body, so you will need to drink extra water. Choose spring water!

Also, check that your microbiome can digest these protein-rich foods, because it doesn´t matter how good the protein food is, the equation is simple: "If you can't digest it, it won't make you energetic".
