🌍 This week and thanks to @climate_lab_at we got to see the Caritas centre for sustainability and social justice. 🧵 First off, they’ve got an incredible Textile Workshop (Textilwerkstatt) where they’re making everything from beeswax wraps to cushions and even handmade carpets! They also handle special requests from companies, which is pretty awesome. 🍞 We also checked out Le+O, their food rescue project. It’s a massive operation with around 1,000 volunteers collecting food from supermarkets and big companies. They manage to use 95% of the donations they receive, distributing it to various organizations and non-profits. 🔨 At their Wood Workshop (Holzwerkstätte), they’re giving long-term unemployed individuals a chance to gain experience in carpentry. 📱 Now, here’s something about phones—Magdas Recycling. Every year, they get around 300,000 mobile phones donated. About 60% of these phones get a second life. They have from iPhone 7s to Samsung models and even some vintage gems (see the picture!) Speaking of shopping, have you checked out the WIDADO Online Shop? They’ve got about 3,700 items across different categories, and while it’s still gaining traction, it’s definitely worth a browse. 🛋️ And if you’re searching for furniture, Carla’s got a Furniture Depot with options for both individuals and businesses. They’ve even got a showroom where you can see everything up close!

Here’s a glance of what we visited: ☕ @ototo_vienna Store & Coffee which serves as a platform for local, small and sustainable brands, that are also quite aesthetic. If it wouldn’t be for this shop, some of the brands would have less opportunity in the market. @ototo_store ✨ NOW WOW with beauty products without chemicals and plastics. Now wow partners with associations to decrease plastic pollution. Shoutout to Cleanhub! @nowwow.shop 🌿 WE Bandits, a sustainable fashion brand whose owner, Sophie, opened up on the challenges that founders face when starting a sustainable fashion brand. @webandits 🌊 Revo Foods, which recently won a prize on sustainability. They create salmon inspired spreads and food. Find their products in Billa! @revo_foods My takeaway from this tour is the power that small businesses can have to create a change. Despite many producers claiming their products are 100% recyclable, only 14% of this plastic is actually collected for recycling.
