rhythm and odd time meters & how these musical phenomena appear in folk, jazz and pop music

We are super excited to be presenting I Hold the Lionโs Paw!!โจThese mavericks have been producing some of the best experimental & improvised musical/multi-disciplinary experiences around the country for the last few years. Mmmmhhhmm!!
๐ About IHLTP:โจConjuring the spirit and twisted funk of Miles Davisโ On the Corner, filtered through the lens of Ornette Colemanโs Prime Time and Jon Hassellโs Fourth World, I Hold the Lionโs Paw is a wild sonic ride that feels simultaneously familiar and like nothing youโve ever heard.โจThe brainchild of ARIA nominated trumpeter-producer Reuben Lewis, Lionโs Paw will guide you through an immersive world of electro-ambience, grungy afro-grooves and psychedelic jazz. This is music as assemblage, using the stage as a laboratory whilst practicing post-production sorcery in realtime!โจโจLinks to their music and more in bioโจโจ ๐

๐ชFinal Spotlight๐ช
With the requisite permission from the South Australian Authority of Dance Floor Affairs (SAADFA), renowned producer, Strict Face, will be presenting a 3-hour-long set with the promise of getting to the bottom of it all.
๐ About Strict Face:
When recently quizzed on his sound, Adelaide-based producer/DJ Strict Face likened his process of producing music to checking the readiness of pasta by throwing them against a wall. Except, instead of testing whether a fettuccino is 'al-dente' enough, he throws snare drums and hand percussion instruments down stairwells to time where each instrument falls within a 4-bar pattern.
He co-runs the SLG International imprint, has released music on NLV Records and has been bestowed the 'seal of approval' by people as disparate as notorious dubstep practitioner Skrillex and Dekmantel Festival favourite Lena Willikens. Studious followers of MUD will also know him as a closely-involved committee member of the institution known as duck! Radio.

๐FOURTH ARTIST' SPOTLIGHT๐
Pairing up for an obliterating performance are two of Adelaide's most highly regarded musicians and performers, vocalist Lauren Henderson and drummer Stephen Neville.
About two months ago, I proposed a performance concept to Stephen, to which his response was something like, "f**k, alright, let me sit with that for a week". mmmmmm, very excited to see what these two sweet gems have in store!
โจAbout Lauren:
Lauren Henderson is an Adelaide-based singer, composer, actor, educator and mother of two beautiful boys. A versatile musician known for her eclectic tastes in jazz, R&B/soul/hip hop, folk, music theatre and pop, she has had the pleasure of working with artists such as The Idea of North, Joe Chindamo, Nelson Dialect, Matthew Sheens, James Muller, Gian Slater, Michelle Nicolle, Anita Wardell, Anna Goldsworthy, Robyn Archer and The Lost and Found Orchestra (creators of STOMP!). Lauren currently lectures in jazz voice at The Elder Conservatorium in Adelaide and is passionate about helping people find their voice.
โจAbout Stephen:
Stephen Neville has been making loud and quiet sounds on the drums for many years. He likes to talk about the drums to people who sometimes listen in the jazz department at Adelaide University. He also likes to play the drums to people who sometimes listen with people who consistently listen. Stephen has recorded and performed nationally and internationally with some of the finest musicians in Adelaide and Australia. While this is nice, he takes more pride in calling them friends. He considers himself very lucky to be presenting a short set of improvised sounds with the incredible Lauren Henderson.

The first time I saw Wes's work, he made a PowerPoint presentation about power points in his house. Somehow, it was the most electrifying talk I've ever attended.
A truly multi-disciplinary artist with a deep instinct for the absurd, Wes has been shaping something very real on the South Coast to share with us all.
โจ About Wes:
Wesley Tyson Maselli, known as WesThePants, is a multi-disciplinary visual artist, performer, curator, facilitator, and writer based on the South Coast, an hour from Adelaide. His work provocatively explores tradition, tropes, transcendence, and the absurd. Wes has been Studio Manager at Mangkaja Art Centre in the Kimberly and Tjarlirli Arts in the Western Desert. Recently, he has focused on his own practice while passionately facilitating community art projects. Notably, Wes completed a residency with the City of Onkaparinga, where he used mnemonics to recall the first 1000 digits of ฯ.

What can only be described as having the bourgeoisie shaking in their glutes,
Tadhg Porter-Cameronโknown simply as the person that wealthy society would prefer didn't existโwill be presenting a series of new spoken word performances on the collapse of western supremacy, but ofcourse.
โจ About Tadhg:
Born and based in Kaurna Yarta, Tadhg Porter-Cameron is a poet, troublemaker, and anti-colonial race traitor of Scottish, Irish, and English descent. His art dives deep into love, life, trauma, and society, always from a loud and unapologetically political standpoint. Tadhg's work reflects the everyday struggles of the proletariat; influenced by Patrick Schneeweis and the haunting echoes of Adelaide's liminal spaces. Fun fact: Tadhg's favorite Coles is the Kurralta Park Coles.
