We are very excited to announce the highly anticipated return of PianoLab, a follow-up to the ambitious music festival which debuted at The Lab in 2022. Highlighting the nation’s finest pianists, PianoLab 2024 pushes the boundaries of traditional recitals through immersive technology and now, experimental composition.
Co-curated by ILA’s Creative Producer Lewis Godwin and Kaurna Yerta pianist Benjamin Nicholls, PianoLab aims to expand dialogue between established institutions and emerging technology, through a program encompassing recitals in both The Lab and The Light Room Studio - the former referencing the rich history of piano composition and the latter contrasting with an entirely experimental approach.

As the sun sets on an era at Aurora we’re both reflective and excited. Sam Cooper our Executive Chef is hanging up the apron and embarking on an exciting journey overseas. Sam has been an integral part of our team at Aurora and ILA since day one. Under his guidance, Aurora has continued to evolve, interweaving art with gastronomy, and his leadership in crafting The Light Room Bar menu and enhancing our functions and events has been nothing short of inspirational.
Sam’s resilience and grace, particularly through the whirlwinds of our industry, have taught us all invaluable lessons. His embodiment of ILA’s values—creating opportunities and fostering a culture of positivity in our kitchen—has left an indelible mark on our community. There are a million ways we could describe Sam. He is an incredible leader and mentor to our team, he is generous with his time, he displays a work ethic to be admired, he is humble, patient and to put it simply, he is an all-round legend that will be greatly missed.
Whilst we are sad to see Sam go, we are excited for his new adventures and to see him on the other side of the pass when he returns to Australia. This also marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter at ILA, which will see Bilal Javed stepping in to replace Sam. Originally hailing from the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Bilal has worked in world-renowned kitchens across the globe and is passionate about continuing to build on Sam’s legacy. This transition isn’t just a change in leadership; it’s a new chapter in ILA’s story of innovation and immersive experiences. And with it comes an opportunity for a visionary Executive Chef to join us on this journey, melding culinary arts and immersive technologies to create unforgettable experiences. If this is an opportunity that excites you stay tuned to find out more.
We’ll be honoring Sam’s invaluable contributions to Aurora at ILA until his last day on April 19th. We invite you to join us, raise a glass, and embrace new chapters ahead. Here’s to the stories we’ve shared and those yet to be told.

Curious about AI's evolving role in the arts? Let's unpack its impact together at the first of three workshops dedicated to dissecting the impact and future potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the creative sectors. ILA in partnership with the University of Adelaide’s ARC-funded research project ‘Rebooting the Muse: Post-COVID-19 sustainability in the performing arts’ invites you to be part of a critical dialogue on the synergy between digital technologies and creative futures.
Pre-register to attend at 4pm in The Light Room for a free-to-view showing of "Anomalous," a thought provoking and possibly alarming digital art film on the developing climate of artificial intelligence and the increasingly digital work we live in. This is followed by a panel discussion led by industry luminaries exploring AI's multifaceted impact on creators, audiences, and the industry at large. The workshop culminates with a networking session in The Lab from 6pm to 6.30pm, fostering connections among visual artists, writers, game designers, and performers.
