Happy International Women's Day from EWB! 💚🤍
The theme of this year's International Women's Day is . Engineers Australia reports that over 18,000 students graduate from engineering and related technology subjects each year, but only 18% of these students identify as female.
It is not enough to simply acknowledge that bias exists. Together, we can break the bias in our communities, workplaces, schools and universities by taking action and calling it out. How will you help break the bias?
Our student chapter aims to inspire the future generation of girls to pursue engineering by providing opportunities to explore STEM in an inclusive environment. School outreach engages young girls of all backgrounds. We believe that diversity in STEM is crucial for increased innovation and approaching real-world challenges in STEM sectors. **COMMITTEE HIGHLIGHT**
In the lead up to our AGM on the 15th of September, we've asked our current committee members about what they've enjoyed in their time in EWB
Josephine Bond: President
“Being on the EWB committee has been an extremely rewarding experience. Seeing students engaged and interested in learning about the positive impacts of humanitarian engineering is always amazing, knowing that our contribution is helping to influence our future STEM pioneers. Meanwhile I've acquired practical experience in a wide range of communication and organisation skills that will continue to assist me in my future pursuits. Talking with professionals and helping shape the path of a national organisation at the 2019 EWB National AGM has been a highlight.”

Michael Santos: Social Media Manager/General Committee
“Being part of EWB enables me to apply the engineering skills I’ve learnt at university, to solve real life problems. Previously attending a Humanitarian Design Summit in Cambodia, I’ve really been amazed at how much engineers can do in a humanitarian context. Doing school outreaches and teaching students how to approach humanitarian problems and find a solution is also something I really enjoy doing as part of the club!”

"EWB is an opportunity to develop your presentation and communication skills. I have loved organising and presenting school outreach to school students. It is always awesome to watch and help the students realise how amazing STEM is."

Willa Budiman: School Outreach Coordinator
"The rural trip to South-east SA was definitely a highlight of my experience in the EWB committee 2019/20. We conducted the renewable energy and water filtration workshops to four schools in four days which was fun, tiring and rewarding. Being a school outreach coordinator was a great opportunity to meet and work with students, teachers and volunteers."
