Been a bit quiet on the socials but as usual we are just chipping away quietly at growing and getting better.A bit of fun using the teep and teep chains to set up elbows as our weekly “theme”. For those playing at home, teep a few times, watch how your partner/opponent responds (or doesn’t) and fake your next teep. When you fake it has to be believable- you are “selling” and they have to “buy”. So try and make the beginning of your technique the same. Look to step in, sliding with the rear foot, and as your lead foot is landing, control the arm if it is still up, and elbow. Continue with controls in place (clinching, striking, evasion, guard and footwork etc) Looking to start your martial arts journey or take your Muay Thai to the next level? Drop us a message. #teep #muaythai #muaythaifighter #muay #muaythaï #muaythailife #muaythaitraining #muaythaiaustralia #muaythaiadelaide #muaythaiaddict #muaythaisouthaustralia #adelaidemuaythai #adelaide #adelaidebusiness #adelaidemartialarts #kickboxingadelaide #adelaidekickboxing #dutchstylekickboxing #kicking #elbows #muaythaielbow

Last night was a very special moment for me receiving my purple belt (and the first belt Laurino has ever given) from someone I respect and I admire as a Coach, competitor and human being, so much. Thank you to @jujigatame124 and @leoarrudajitsu for my promotion to purple belt. It was hard earned during the most challenging time of my life at 50 years with 3 boys under 5. Thank you to all those coaches that have contributed to my journey along the way, particularly @marciomaiabjj @joaoruffo and @kgjiujitsu_ and our team at the club who have all contributed immensely to my Jiu Jitsu journey. Thanks also to @danny_mucci_ for being my “uke”, training partner and friend leading up to grading. This weeks drill: Drawing a response with the low kick to set a trap. Observing the leg check without a counter. Some Nak Muay also keep the blocking leg for too long which can present an opening for counters. We are deliberately looking to set a trap when our opponent checks. We are training 4 options. Of course there are plenty and I wouldn’t suggest doing 4 in a session for beginners but these lads are fighters and have trained for years so have the capacity to take it in and drill it. 1. To set up a big left hook 2. To set up a sweep from @nongogaiyanghadao we have also played with an awesome one from @trainor103 3. To kick the supporting leg 4. To land the low kick once the opponent places the foot down. All require observation, different angles, timing and distance. Here our fighters a working a set sequence prior to randomising it and then looking for it sparring. #drillers #drillersclub #drillersmakekillers #muay #muaythaifighter #muaythailife #muaythailifestyle #nakmuay #muaythaitraining #muaythailovers #muaythaigym #muaythaitechniques #muaythaifitness #muaythaiaddict #muaythaï #thaiboxer #thaibox #thaiboxe #adelaide #adelaidebusiness #adelaidepersonaltrainer #adelaidetrainer #adelaidemuaythai #kickboxingadelaide #adelaidekickboxing #adelaidegym #adelaidemartialarts

Setting up your shots Once really solid fundamental technique is well established (and even then we are always looking for improvement and refinement) at some point looking to set your shots up with drilling is a good way of cultivating your fight IQ. We mucked around this Tuesday morning with some body kick sets ups. 1. Using a big left hook to raise the arm up to protect the head exposing the ribs for the body kick. (@basruttenmma was renowned for this set up with the liver kick- light years ahead of his time) 2. Faking the inside low kick (after landing or drawing a response to it) to liver kick 3. Faking the body kick (after landing or drawing a response to it) and stutter step, punching distraction to keep opponent “busy” to the same side or other side body kick (a beautiful set up I’ve seen both @nongogaiyanghadao and @topicfight use) 4. And in the second short clip trying to time the body kick against the puncher. @johnwayneparr was a big influence on me - he used his left body/liver kick as a strategy to negate the right hand of his opponents many times. Of late @team_pinky_muay_thai_new also really helped me as a coach refocus on trying to nail our body kicking game. When you see legends of the sport using these techniques and strategies with impeccable timing and distance maintenance it’s time to pay attention. Heavy Get Up Practice There’s so much great stuff happening with a Turkish get up. Get ups show “how well put together” you are. They highlight asymmetries, thoracic and hip mobility or a lack of stability in areas. Core engagement is next level and shoulder stability through different planes is there. There’s also the other stuff that’s usually NOT mentioned - It stimulates the vestibular system, visual system, improves proprioception, gets the the brain working with the opposite side of the body and ties up opposite sides of the body (think opposite arm to leg etc) and they develop whole body strength and reflexive stability. And when we dig deeper the get up works through several postures of the neuro developmental sequence - supine, rolling, crawling, asymmetrical stance, single leg stance, and symmetrical stance. The get up ain’t about getting up - it’s actually about pressing down to get up. And there is huge cross over for martial artists. Especially BJJ players. #turkishgetup #turkishgetups #turkishgetupchallenge #kettlebells #kettlebellworkout #kettlebelltraining #kettlebell #kettlebellworkouts #kettlebellexercises #adelaidepersonaltrainer #personaltraining #personaltrainingadelaide #sagreat #adelaidegym #adelaidestrengthcoach

Our early morning S&C crew getting after it with some heavy one arm KB swings. We’ve been specialising in kettlebells since I went to Hungary and did the Russian Kettlebell Challenge (RKC) certification in 2008 with Pavel Tsatsouline. Since then I’ve gone on to do the Level 2 twice, had a crack at the beast tamer, and assisted on many workshops as an assistant, Team Leader, Senior Instructor and then finally as a Master Instructor. I’m still passionate about them. In my humble opinion they are still one of the best, if not the best training tools around. More importantly was the education, coaching and the system based around the tool that the RKC provided and still does to this day 22 years later. I get asked “why the kettlebell?” To honest it was always about the knowledge that was delivered with the tool. But if it’s specifically about the tool then there are quite a few reasons we chose to specialise in them. ✅ They are a portable gym ONCE you have the skills and good programming - which almost no PTs have. ✅ They are not bilateral and hence there is more freedom to move joints naturally - much more forgiving than barbell work on the body ✅ Eccentric training - unlike oly lifts and barbells where the bb is dumped at the top of the lift, with bells you have to control the eccentric portion - this is GREAT for athletes who need to slow down, stop, change direction etc ✅Expression of power without high impact and joint preservation -especially when ageing. ✅Unique centre of gravity and shape allows unique exercises to be done that can’t be completed as well with different tools. ✅ The “WTF” effect - amazing crossover into martial arts applications and other physical pursuits. If you are wanting to learn how to use them safely, effectively and how to program for great results with someone who has specialised in them for many years to an elite level - get in touch. #kettlebell #kettlebells #kettlebellworkout #kettlebellsw

One of our favourite kicking drills to warm up-the kick for kick This is two of our fighters warming up before sparring. There’s some great stuff happening here, faking and feinting, changing angles, floating leg checks and defending and counter attacking. There are lots of options to defend the body kick: Evasion, checking (blocking), catching in various ways and double palm blocking to name a few which are being worked here. Even if one of the lads wears a kick, it’s important it’s answered back straight away so it’s training this response. Mostly, it’s 🤩 #drillers #drillersmakekillers #kicking #kickinggoals #kicks #kick #adelaidemuaythai #muaythaiadelaide #thaiboxing #thaiboxe #muaythai #muaythaï #muaythaitraining #muaythaigram #muaythailifestyle #muaythaitechniques #muaythaifitness #muaythaiforlife #muaythaisouthaustralia #sagreat #adelaidepersonaltrainer #personaltraineradelaide #dutchstylekickboxing #roundkick

Technique Tuesday Beginners drill I learned many years ago in various formats to train finding distance for the left kick. Probing with a Jab, double jab or jab -cross to help find distance, then opponent can respond by holding their ground, step forward or step back. At a later stage can be progressed with counter striking. Options are: Switch kick on the spot, step forward and left kick or step and pivot off away from power side with parry/long guard and kick depending on response. Then add a cross to ensure landing in a solid position to generate power and exit safely. Start off structured, then go to random to improve timing. Drill until sharp. Enjoy 🔥👊 #drillersmakekillers #drillersarekillers #adelaidegym #adelaidemuaythai #muaythaiadelaide #muaythaï #samuaythai #sagreat #adelaidepersonaltrainer #nakmuayying #nakmuaythai #muaythaigram #muaythailifestyle #muaythailovers #muaythailifestyle #thaiboxe #thaiboxinglife #thaiboxingtraining #muaythaitrainer #muaythaiaddict #muaythaiforlife #muaythaitips #dutchstylekickboxing #kickboxingtraining #kickboxer #kickboxingworkout #kickboxingteam #trainhardfighteasy #adelaide #adelaidebusiness

Drillerz are killerz. My lads displayed great work ethic, training Monday night after fighting Sunday and then brushing up Tuesday AM on some things from our last performance with some drilling dealing with the right straight. Timing - is the thing that differentiates amateurs from professionals. In this drill we are working: 👊early phase - “stop hits” at distance with the teep, liver kick and slip or “dipping” right hand and looking to hit the opponent as they enter our range before, or just as they are striking. 👊Mid phase - timing a little later parrying and body kick 👊 Late phase - closed guard and left hook counter combo Learning different options based on appropriate distance, timing and tools deployable. There are many options but we like to pick 5 at a time and just drill while the partner tries to land a cheeky right hand down the centre with fakes, feints, baiting etc. It’s important to have a number of options so patterns are more unpredictable and not so easily countered. #muaythai #muaythaï #muaythaitraining #muaythaitechniques #muaythaidrills #muaythaidrill #thaiboxing #thaiboxer #thaiboxe #dutchstylekickboxing #adelaidemuaythai #muaythaiaustralia #muaythaiaddict #muay #muaythailifestyle

Here is a highlight reel of @sebastian_mucci Interclub on the weekend. Some great technique on show🔥 We’ve been working a lot on his teep timing, left liver kick and trusting his long guard. Congrats to Steve and Kristin, two of our long term early morning crew who smashed out their Viking Warrior Conditioning protocol of 40 sets = 20 mins of continuous kettlebell snatching. (15s on 15s off switching hands each time 7-10 reps) this morning. Awesome stuff - these guys are getting strong and fit 💪 and moving well 🏋️ Todays programming was very stereotypical for us. Block one: mobility and stability, warm up/activation Block two: technical practice or power work, or exercises that have a balance demand or are a point of weakness. Block three: strength/hypertrophy Block four: conditioning/cv/finisher Block five: cool down/mobility/flexibility/recovery. This conditioning was done AFTER a hypertrophy block of an auto regulated double KB front squat AMRAP for 10 minutes of sets of 10 and then another strength block of auto regulated double kettlebell military press AMRAP for 10 mins sets of 5. (Coincidentally this set/rep scheme just swaps for the second session - super easy but gets HUGE results). The kettlebell snatch is the top of the food chain of KB lifts for strength, lungs of steel and cross over into other lifts and things. It has what we call the WTF affect. It also requires a great foundation in technique that is acquired progressively over time. This guys had a great base so they got there easily after just 6 weeks. If you’d like to improve your strength and conditioning get in touch 👍 Phenomenal results. Well done 👊👊 #kettlebell #kettlebellworkout #rkc #kettlebellswings #kettlebelltraining #kettlebellworkouts #kettlebellsnatch #kettlebellexercises #kettlebelllifting #kettlebellsadelaide #masterrkc #vikingwarriorconditioning #vikingwarriors #strength #strengthandconditioning #strengthtraining #conditioning #lungsofsteel

Fundamental drills- Working the liver kick against straight punches The kick beats the punch in Muay Thai scoring. And besides, irrespective of scoring the liver kick when placed accurately is BRUTAL. It drops the hands, saps energy, disrupts the breathing and just bloody hurts. It’s a successful strategy used my one of Australia’s most prolific Nak Muay (and one of my idols) @johnwayneparr Whilst this drill is again working in isolation to work a very specific skill set, timing and placement on a body can be hard to do in a sparring environment without hurting anyone. So this is a great way of achieving that. Points to focus on: - Not necessarily waiting to be punched to kick, note: kicking when in distance to the forearms still racks up points and can over time negate the power hand via damage to the arm. It also makes the boxer more hesitant to throw that power hand if they know they will be punished each time for it. - When vs the punch timing the kick when the punching elbow starts to leave the body - Staying long and tall in your kicking to stay away from the straight punches - Parrying the first/closest punch - Head movement in direction of kick - Swinging lead hand on kicking side to side not down to cover chin Try it in your drilling over and over. The point of drills like this is to make it unconscious and reflexive under pressure. Perfect repetition is your teacher. Here is our young gun @sebastian_mucci working out his timing and distance with our fighter @chrisliuhere #drillersmakekillers #muaythaidrills #nakmuayying #nakmuaythai #thaïboxing #thaiboxer #thaiboxe #muay #muaythaï #muaythailovers #muaythaitechniques #muaythaitechnique #adelaidemuaythai #adelaidepersonaltrainer #adelaidepersonaltraining #dutchstylekickboxing #kickboxingtraining #kick #liverkick #roundhousekick

Is it knee you’re looking for? A little bit of fun working a Dutch style jumping knee under the chin in the pocket. You’ll see some of the greats like Andy Souwer and Nieky Holzken using this knee in their fights. Sometimes we train jumping and flying techniques but 99.9% of the focus is getting better at the fundamentals. #knee #jumpingknee #jumpingkneestrike #dutchstyle #dutchstylekickboxing #kickboxingworkout #kickboxingtraining #kickboxingclass #kickboxingfitness #thaïboxing #muaythaï #muaythaifight #muaythay #muay #muaythaiboxing

Teep! The push kick beats everything. Chris and Seb here are working on creating a teep chain to establish a pattern in order to elicit a response, to set up other strikes with the “Thai hop”. In a nutshell it’s teeping a few times to set the pattern, see how their opponent responds then faking the teep and hitting other targets. There are lots of options when timed and executed well - punching, body shots, elbows, angles for a head kick, jumping teeps etc. The key thing is the opponent has to “buy” the fake or believe that another teep is coming. Once the buy in is there and a response has been drawn it leaves the opponent open. These kinds of drills are important to develop strategies and fight IQ. Drillers are killers. #drillers #drillersclub #drillersarekillers #drillersmakekillers #muay #muaythaifight #nakmuayying #thaïboxing #thaiboxer #thaiboxer #thaiboxe #thaibox #muaythaï #muaythaiaus #muaythaiadelaide #adelaidemuaythai #dutchstylekickboxing #onechampionship #k1 #glory #kickboxingworkout #kickboxingtraining #kickboxingclass #kickboxingfitness

Drillers are Killers This is a basic drill we use to help: 1. Develop comfortability using the long guard when dealing with punches (ultimately the stiff arm/long guard is more dynamic and alive, and involves head movement) 2. Teach a basic entry into the clinch using the long guard whilst under the pressure of punching 3. Teach the use of the clinch to negate boxing as a strategy 4. And to work into some basic inside control and knees on a belly pad to place the knees with a bit of force. No Clinch = No Muay Thai And besides it’s fun 🤩 Want to learn more, come and train 👊👊👊👊 #drillersmakekillers #drillersarekillers #clinch #muaykhao #kneefighter #dieselnoi #nakmuayying #nakmuaythai #muaythaï #thaiboxer #thaiboxe #thaiboxer #thaistyle #noclinchnomuaythai #clinching #muaythaiclinch #muaythaiknees #knee #clinchknees #adelaidemuaythai #muaythaiadelaide #southaustralianmuaythai
