Jimmy & Gary Update! πΎπ
Recently both boys were assessed by an eye specialist who fortunately was very pleased by how they have both adapted to their vision loss.
At this point, J & G will be expected to be fully blind in the next 1-2 years. However, considering the disease is degenerative, this just means that both of them will just compensate for any change in eyesight as it progresses.
Both boys are fine to be rehomed separately, however if they were to go to homes as only dogs - they would prefer to be only left for part time hours.
We would LOVE to finally be able to find homes for these gorgeous little men! If you think you could be their new pawrent, please contact us via email at [email protected] π
The GAP team and greyhounds Red and Milky were lucky enough to meet the team at SA Power Networks yesterday.
We heard they were a fan of our hounds, so we packed the greys and made our way over... Red and his apprentice Milky had a great time meeting the team!
We love getting out and about, so, if you would like to welcome our greys into your own workplace and help us generate interest for the breed, please contact us at [email protected] π
Our team spoke recently with Helen Meyer about her experience in becoming a foster carer for GAP and how she adopted her fourth foster greyhound, Yip Yap.
Our foster carers help our greyhounds transition from life as an athlete to life as a pet, giving them a helping hand before they go to their forever home. Fostering is perfect for those unable to commit to a dog full-time or those just wanting to see if greyhounds are right for them - yes, as Helen did, you can keep them if you fall in love! Fostering-to-adopt can be an ideal option for families wanting to get to know their greyhound before making a final decision to adopt.
Plus we provide everything you need to succeed! This includes weekly payments, food, bed, leads and our support along the way.

Our GAP Supervisor Jemma had a chat with Michael Keelan and Kerri Ackermann on FIVEaa on Saturday morning ahead of the day's Animal Expo. Jemma provided some great information for anyone thinking of adopting or fostering a greyhound during the chat. So if you know anyone sitting on the fence about a greyhound, share away!

A note from Blaze's foster family:
"Blaze is a sweet, gentle and well-mannered boy. He loves his walks and outings and is gentle on lead and a good overall walking companion. Blaze looks forward to joining his humans for car rides and will happily snooze away in the back, even if you need to leave him alone for a while. Blaze loves dinner time and will wait patiently with you while you prepare his yummy meal. He loves seeing the beach and will be very happy if you take him there. Blaze is crazy about tennis balls and might even do a zoomie or two in his excitedness! He can get a little excited initially when meeting some dogs but will soon return to his calm, gentle self. Blaze is a beautiful soul and would be an excellent addition to his forever family."

What do you call a cold dog?
A pupsicle! π§β
It's safe to say they'll be no cold dogs on our watch... Animal Welfare League SA have kindly donated a variety of brand new Huskimo dog winter coats and 'snoods'!
Available for sale from GAP HQ, come on down and snag a hot deal during these cold times. Best of all, ALL proceeds from your purchase will be donated back to AWL to continue the great work they do for our four-legged friends. π
Not sure on sizing? You're welcome to bring your greyhounds along and try before you buy to ensure the best fit.
Our office is open from 8.30am to 4.30pm on weekdays. See you soon!
We get to meet some seriously special hounds every day. Today we have a very special pair for you that will need a little help...
Jimmy and Gary. π
This duo has permanent residency in our hearts, due to the fact they are brothers/littermates and unfortunately have both inherited an eye condition call Progressive Retinal Atrophy.
This disease is degenerative which means both boys will eventually go blind, with both of them currently experiencing varying degrees of vision loss. π
We are URGENTLY seeking a foster or foster-to-adopt home for each of them, preferably with another M-L dog to learn from. Ideally, Jimmy and Gary should have as much time as possible in a home with their sight in order to familiarise themselves with their surroundings.
Please note, Jimmy and Gary DO NOT need to be fostered together. They are fine to live in separate homes.
While dogs do manage to cope extremely well with blindness, it is vital that they be in a home before they lose their vision entirely. Jimmy and Gary are currently in the process of seeing an eye specialist to determine a long-term plan for them both.
The GAP foster program ensures that all foster carers are provided with everything during the foster period, so everything you'll need for either dog is catered for!
Check out Jimmy and Gary's profiles via the links below to read more about their gorgeous natures. β¬

We were thrilled to go along to Ronald McDonald House's Christmas Party last Wednesday night with Bert and Nick providing some pats and cuddles to all the families attending.
It's fair to say they won some new fans on the day! πΎ

Good news for renters with pets! π πΎ
New rental laws have been passed by the Parliament of South Australia to improve protections for tenants while balancing the rights of landlords. These include helping tenants keep pets while renting!
Landlords will not be allowed to unreasonably refuse a tenantβs application to keep a pet in a rental property, provided the tenant agrees to comply with any reasonable conditions imposed by the landlord.
Reasonable conditions will include requiring a pet to be kept outside of the rental property if the pet is not a type ordinarily kept inside and requiring carpets to be professionally cleaned at the end of the tenancy, if a pet is allowed inside.
Renters will still need to seek permission from the landlord to keep a pet and they are liable if the pet causes damage. Landlords will still have a right to refuse to allow a pet if they have a justifiable reason such as the property lacking suitable space or fencing, if keeping the pet does not comply with Council requirements or if the animal presents a public safety risk.
Renters will be able to apply to SACAT if they donβt think conditions imposed are reasonable or that their request was unreasonably refused.
The latest raft of measures will become effective at a date yet to be set, after supporting regulations are developed. So, keep an eye out for any announcements!
