Last Sunday, some of our OneFPH team were given the opportunity to volunteer with Foodbank SA & Central Australia at the Royal Adelaide Show.
Our team were located at the Foodbank stand, as part of the Yellow Brick Road (YBR) show bag trail and were handing out Kellogg's Australia K-time bars.
For every YBR show bag sold, Foodbank are able to put a meal on the table of those in need.
Earlier this month our team were joined by Sarah, recent graduate of our Flinders Ports Cadetship, for work experience.
The work experience component of this cadetship includes a rotation across various units of the business, including time with our VTS, Security, HydroSurvey, FACT and MST teams. Sarah was also lucky enough to head out on our newest Pilot Boat, Spencer, as well as going up in one of our Quay Cranes.
The rotation is designed to provide an insight into our operations and the many moving parts across FPH.

An incredible sunrise captured by our HydroSurvey team on their recent trip to Thevenard! Taken from vessel Pathfinder. Look at how still that water is 🌅
During the month of July 2024, our Marine Services Teams in Adelaide in conjunction with the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service and SA Infrastructure and Transport undertook Oil Spill Response training at Outer Harbor.
Learnings included planning out a response and deploying first strike equipment accordingly, boom and anchoring arrangements, harbor skimming, shore collection tank, deployment of the Nofi V sweep and recovery of deployed equipment.
The sessions were coordinated by Oil Response Company Of Australia - ORCA
MEET THE TEAM: Wayne Hogben
Wayne is our Group Manager Information Systems & Services and has been with FPH for 3.5 years. Wayne started as Program Manager for Group IT, delivering IT projects before moving into his current role a year ago. He now manages the group that support our Corporate Information Systems, including the Applications, Data, Architecture and Service Desk teams.
"I can honestly say this is one of the best places I have worked in my career – we have really great people, and we do great stuff. Watching a vessel come alongside or seeing a straddle in action is really cool and reminds me of my childhood playing with cars, trucks and boats. I love that I’m actually a small part of that in real life!"
Last week, we welcomed Pilot Vessel, Spencer, to our fleet with an official Christening and naming ceremony.
Spencer was named after the larger of the two gulf inlets on the southern coast of Australia, between the Eyre and Yorke Peninsula's. This is the 2nd of the 3 new Pilot Vessels we are due to receive in a 3-year agreement with Hart Marine.
Spencer was Christened by long-standing employee, Julie Garratt, who earlier this year celebrated 45 years at FPH.
Welcome, PV Spencer!
SOUTH AUSTRALIA'S CONTAINER TRADE GATEWAY TO THE WORLD
We take our role of facilitating economic growth in South Australia seriously, which is why we are potentially embarking on the largest project that Flinders Port Holdings (FPH) has ever undertaken.
The transformation program will consist of a proof of concept, which if successfully approved will lead to a change in operating mode.
The GatewaySA Program is a multi-million-dollar investment at Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal (FACT) that will create a sustainable container terminal to meet the growing needs of FPH and South Australia well into the future.

What a view for our team down at Outer Harbor! 🌅
Earlier this month, the CMA CGM GROUP (Official) Tage set a record for the deepest departure draft from Outer Harbor to date, at 14.30m.
The vessel exchanged some 2,526 units or 3,426 TEU at our Flinders Adelaide Container Terminal.
The CMA CGM GROUP (Official) Tage required a tide height of 1.53m to be sustained for at least 1 hour to achieve the minimum UKC (Under Keel Clearance) required for safe passage out of the Port via the Outer Harbor Channel.
Congratulations to Sarah, a recent graduate of the Flinders Ports Cadetship through Friends of the One And All Sailing Ship Inc
Each year FPH works in conjunction with The One and All Tall Ship to recruit a cadet from a diverse background. The cadetship provides a unique opportunity for young people to gain employment in the maritime industry. The cadetship aims to create future leaders through the variety of experiences offered during the cadet’s journey, including work experience within the FPH business.
We also welcome Maddie, our newest cadet, who is about to begin her 12-month journey!
Methanol powered vessel, Grouse Sun, visited Port Adelaide the other week, sparking much excitement from our team.
Grouse Sun is an oil/chemical vessel with a dual fuel engine which allows it to operate on heavy fuel oil as well as methanol. It also features technology that aims to cut down the production of nitrogen oxides (NOx) when operating on methanol fuel.
There are currently less than 100 methanol powered vessels worldwide, with this being Grouse Sun's first visit to South Australia.

Thank you to Committee for Adelaide SA ZERO for joining us the other week for a workshop and tour of FACT.
SA ZERO is a member-based cluster of business, government and academia with a mission to accelerate South Australia's zero carbon and zero waste pathways.
We took the group on a tour of FACT to talk to them about who FPH is and our net zero plans for the company regarding plant and equipment at FACT. Our workshop focused on developing our plan for the next financial year.

Allison is our Investment Governance and Contract Manager and has been at FPH for 8 years.
Allison’s role is writing and managing contracts for the business, managing compliance dates and working with our Investment Working Committee to keep our capital approval process running. She is also our Diversity Council Chair, a member of our Strategic Realisation Office and our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Champion!
We asked Allison what her favourite thing was about working at FPH:
"I have been with FPH for almost 8 years now and I feel like every year my role shifts and grows into something new. I’ve stayed because every time I need a new challenge something has come along to get me curious and enthusiastic to have a go. I think the business has changed a lot since I joined, and it is exciting to see what’s next. "
Thanks to our OneFPH team for snapping this pic of PV Spirit entering the Port Pirie Harbour! Captured the other week on a still winters night. ďż˝
Today is International Day of the Seafarer. From our Ports around South Australia to global waters, we acknowledge the courage and dedication of seafarers and the impact they have on our everyday lives. Their hard work ensures the smooth sailing of global commerce!
Thank you Clontarf Foundation for joining us at FACT & FWD yesterday morning. It was a pleasure hosting the boys from Port Lincoln, giving them an up-close look at our operations and insights into our business.
Since our partnership began in 2021, FPH has been privileged to engage with academy students through site visits, Clontarf events, and more. This tour marks the first of multiple planned for this year, and we're excited to continue showcasing potential career pathways to academy members!
As part of our ongoing support of Green Adelaide and the research and on ground works for Bird Island, we are happy to report that we have seen a record number of Fairy Tern fledglings this season, with at least 22 chicks making it through to the flying stage.
This is an increase from 15 fledglings last year, and from just 1 fledgling the year before. In 2023, 20 chick shelters were placed on the Island (shelter shown in picture 1), likely contributing to this increase.
A sunset picture to send off another week at FPH 🌅 Pictured is Accolade ll about to receive her Pilot before entering the channel at Outer Harbor last week.
MEET THE TEAM: Marnie Hope
Marnie is our Group Sustainability Manager and started with FPH in September last year. Marnie's role is to lead the sustainability strategy for the Group, oversee our Environmental Management Program and is also responsible for our climate and net-zero plans.
We asked Marnie what her favourite thing about working at FPH has been so far;
"The people! Our people are passionate about what they do, and I love learning about the business and operations both in Port Adelaide and our regional sites. I haven’t worked in the sector before so it has been a steep learning curve and couldn’t do my role without the support of others.
There is nothing quite like being up in a Straddle Carrier or Crane for a view of our operations and Adelaide. You get an appreciation for the complexity in the land and marine services we provide for our customers."
What an incredible sight for our OneFPH Crew in Port Lincoln the other morning!
Pictured is our Pilot Boat, Norfolk, cutting through bioluminescent algae in Boston Bay.
As part of our commitment to a positive mental health culture, we are pleased to have commenced delivery of Mental Health First Aid training for Leaders.
FPH is partnering with Breakthrough Mental Health Research Foundation to deliver this training, in conjunction with Layla Pagac, our Senior Work Health Safety Business Partner and very own accredited Mental Health First Aid training facilitator.
Mental Health First Aid training is a 2-day program which will equip our leaders with the knowledge, skills and confidence to recognise, understand and respond to a co-worker, friend, family member or another adult, experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis. The course is also recognised by Su***de Prevention Australia as a safe, high-quality, and effective su***de prevention program.
We will continue to deliver more courses to our team throughout the next 12 months.
