Rewilding 🌿 is my intentional word for 2023. I have been setting myself intentional words since 2014 and this one has probably been one of the most expansive ✨
This year I have focused on connection to nature. Learning to be present in the moment. Taking time and effort to identify what is important to me. What serves me. And weeding out that which does not serve me. Being intentional with how and who I give my time to. So I can bring my best self to the ones I love.
As the year comes to a close, I'm feeling incredibly grateful for my rewilding journey - and excited for the evolution into next year's intentional journey!
This video was published 3 years ago but includes footage from the First Nations National Constitutional Convention in May 2017 which is when the Uluṟu Statement was born. The tireless warriors like Aunty Pat Anderson AO, Professor Megan Davis, Noel Pearson and many, many, many more have been sharing these messages for OVER SIX YEARS.
Let that sink in.
Over 80% of First Nations people support the Yes vote. The referendum request was created by First Nations people, for First Nations people.
The very people asking for a voice, have been asking for a voice for years and yet the No campaign tells us they don’t need one; they say they don’t need a formalised voice in parliament. YET the very fact that this incredibly important statement, that was forged by the collective voices of our First Nations people, was for many years largely ignored and now faces distortion and mis-truths from no campaigners; to me, this highlights the CRITICAL IMPORTANCE of the Voice to Parliament.
During this referendum I have met many people who haven’t read the Uluṟu statement, who haven’t listened to the First Nations voices who were at this convention; this is heartbreaking to me. Australia, we can do better.
This vote is too important to remain ignorant.
If you don’t know, find out. Ask questions from sources that aren’t politically poisoned. Think about how absolutely heart wrenching the negativity would feel for our First Nations people, who are minority in numbers but significantly bigger in connection, over thousands of years to our Country.
If you haven’t read the statement, I’ll add a video link, and if you just spare 4 minutes of your time, other people will read it to you.
From Pat Anderson at the First Nations National Constitutional Convention in May 2017
“We can not continue to go on anymore being voiceless and powerless in our own lands. The country needs to be mature and sophisticated enough to have an intelligent conversation so we can all move forward and solve this unfinished business between us all. Because it’s definitely time.”
What is Voice, Treaty and Truth? What is Voice, Treaty and Truth? Hear Aunty Pat Anderson AO, Professor Megan Davis and Noel Pearson speaking directly from the First Nations National Constit...

To paraphrase his words, Premier Peter Malinauskas grew up in a family with a strong social consciousness and it's this awareness, empathy and compassion that motivated him to participate in his 6th Vinnies CEO Sleepout. As a 7th year participant I am genuinely excited to see what this awareness and personal values will bring to South Australia through Peter's role as Premier.
In this week's podcast episode, which was recorded live at the
Vinnies SA CEO Sleepout, I spoke with the Premier about his motivations to participate. We also discuss the critical need to bring together government, nonprofits and the business sector in order to drive meaningful change in areas such as community housing and homelessness.
This is an issue for everyone. Through collaborative and combined effort we can work to make a difference in the lives of people in need.

This morning, two 11 year old students from Somerset Primary School delivered an inspirational Anzac Day address. They answered the question of what Anzac Day meant to them and displayed both conviction in their ideals and empathetic thinking; qualities I believe are worth reflection on this day.
I feel gratitude for the men and women who have sacrificed for our freedom and with this, we had the opportunity to be addressed by those two impressive students.

Listening is a skill I think we undervalue. Today is day for listening to Australia’s First Nations people.
There are many indigenous Australian voices and is one I have had the privilege to meet and listen to in person (podcast episode 194)
As non-indigenous Australian’s we don’t have lived experience of what it means to be a First Nations person but we can listen and we can learn. Check out the post below for details of Thomas’s lived experience

Check out my opinion piece in the today. There’s a link in my story.
Extract:
“It is a crying shame that Governor Arthur Phillip did not have the humanity to negotiate the British settlement with First Nations people, rather than commence a brutal invasion: the herding of families and forcing them off cliffs; the thrashing our babies’ heads against rocks; the poisoning of our waterholes and blankets; the dispossessing us of our homelands, our shelter, our food and water sources; the enslavement and keeping our wages; the destruction of our most sacred and ancient of places; the forced assimilation and taking our children – it all began on January 26, 1788. January 26 is the date that marks the end of over 60 millennia of comparative peace.”
Want to include your kids in conversations about 26th January and what it means to our First Nations people?
Read this post below 👇👇 Blackfulla Bookclub] articulates this much, much better than I can. Follow them. Buy books written by indigenous authors. Ask your school to buy these books. Have conversations with your kids.

📚 Boorai’s Books! 📚
We have a few new fave boorai’s (kids) books! Thank you to everyone who has sent them to us, we seemed to have accumulated a lot!!!
The one my niece Lala May can’t put down is SOMEBODY’S LAND by . We love this one because it so skilfully teaches kids about the lies of *terra nullius* and how white Australia tried to claim the continent as “nobody’s land”. It was the first time Lala has seen the words *terra nullius* written so we went on to discuss this. This has been such a useful story leading into Invasion Day and reinforces why it is important for children to Acknowledge the Land they stand on! It uses repetition and after Lala read this story we did some research on Mabo & I was able to have a conversation with her about the bigger issues about Invasion which she then went to her school and asked them to order the book!
We also love:
🐢 SEA COUNTRY by Aunty Patsy Cameron & Lisa Kennedy
👩🏽🔬THE FIRST SCIENTISTS by Corey Tutt
🎨 ALBERT NAMATJIRA by Vincent Namatjira
🦸🏾♂️ HEROES, REBELS & INNOVATORS: INSPIRING ABORIGINAL & TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER PEOPLE FROM HISTORY by Karen Wyld & Jaelyn Biumaiwai
🥚 AWESOME EMU by Gregg Dreise
☀️ 🌙 FATHER SKY and MOTHER EARTH by Oodgeroo!
This is the perfect stack to gift your kids this festive season! ✌🏾
In this week’s podcast episode I reflect on the opportunity we have to be part of meaningful recognition for our First Nations people.
We have been invited to walk with the world’s oldest continuous culture in support of their rights to be recognised in the Australian Constitution. It’s time.

“We invite you to walk with us in a movement of the Australian people for a better future.”
Australians have accepted the invitation from First Nations to imagine a better future. We’re ready to vote 🗳 “YES” at a referendum for a First Nations Voice to Parliament protected by the Constitution.

The beach brings me joy. Deep, soul satisfying joy ✨
As I transition to my new intention word for 2022 I remind myself that the habits I created in 2021 to seek joy, will not leave me. A year of conscious attention and action towards joy has established ingrained priorities and action. As my focus shifts, my joyful habits will remain.
I think I have landed on my new intention word that will serve me in 22’ >> can you guess??
I’ll go through the worksheet (find the link in Nardia’s podcast episode) and outline my intentional actions. I’ll share this with you; both because it may help you to set yours by understanding how I do mine AND because it’s a form of accountability. Once I’ve verbalised publicly my intention it adds weight and responsibility to the commitment 👊
In episode 279, I replay episode 228 that helped us kickstart and reframe our sense of self in early 2021. Leadership Coach and mentor, Nardia Renney discusses how we can allow ourselves to thrive by aligning with our values.
The tools that she explains and the worksheet that is available to support this episode, had a profoundly positive impact on me in 2021 - I explain this in detail in recent episode 277 if you'd like to hear about my experience implementing what Nardia discusses in this episode.
Nardia explains how to live an intentional and conscious life by honouring your feelings and meeting your needs. The advice and tips Nardia shares helped me live with intention and purpose; so I’m sharing again as we roll into 2022 to ensure more people have the same opportunity to achieve these benefits.
