We are thrilled to share the new KIFS schedule that will commence in 2025 after the introduction of the two new larger state-of-the-art ferries, Wanggami and Ruwi.
The new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service will enhance the customer experience, providing greater flexibility and capacity, giving customers more choice for planning their journey.
Here’s what you can look forward to:
▪️ Increased daily departures as follows:
▪️ Peak season (September to April): 22 departures per day (11 trips each way)
Monday to Friday; and 18 departures per day (9 trips each way) Saturday to
Sunday.
▪️ Off-peak season (May to August): 14 departures per day (7 trips each way).
▪️ Expanded Capacity: Around 150 metres more vehicle lane space per departure.
▪️ Easier vehicle loading: Drive-through loading, with drive on and off in the same
direction, allowing quicker turnarounds.
▪️ Improved customer amenities: A more comfortable ride, free WIFI, device charging
stations, and secure pet lounge.

UPDATE; New Kangaroo Island Ferry Service - Upcoming Construction at Cape Jervis Port.
We are pleased to share that the construction of SeaLink’s two new 60m drive-through ferries is progressing well, and we are on track to commence service in 2025.
The Department for Infrastructure and Transport's (DIT) Cape Jervis and Kangaroo Island Ports Upgrade works started in February 2024 with the infrastructure upgrades at the Penneshaw and Cape Jervis ports advancing as planned.
We will also be leading some specific construction activities starting at Cape Jervis on Monday 12 August 2024, which will be focused on the vehicle loading area and access, vehicle loading ramps, and ferry maintenance berth.
During this period, parking access will be restricted in some areas (as indicated on the map) until the completion of the Cape Jervis works, however existing designated parking areas will remain unchanged.
We urge everyone to exercise caution when moving around the port and carparks to ensure your safety and that of others.
We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we undertake these significant improvements to enhance your future travel experience.
For more information on the new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service, or if you have any questions, please visit sealink.com.au/kifs or email [email protected].
For further information on the Department for Infrastructure and Transport works, visit http://www.dit.sa.gov.au/KIPorts or contact the Department by emailing [email protected] or calling 1300 794 880.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

We are thrilled to announce the names of the two new ferries for the Kangaroo Island Ferry Service!
Last year, we invited the community to help us name these ferries, and we received over 1,500 submissions. Seeking formal approval from the Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal Council (NAC), whose cultural heritage is deeply connected to Cape Jervis and Kangaroo Island, was a vital step.
In the linked video, Mark Koolmatrie, Deputy Chair of the Ngarrindjeri Aboriginal Corporation (NAC) explains the meaning behind the names.
Throughout the naming process we have worked closely with NAC and other stakeholders to acknowledge and celebrate the connection of the Ngarrindjeri people to the lands and waters in which our ferries operate.
Take a moment to watch the video and join us in celebrating this exciting milestone as we head towards the commencement of the new Kangaroo Island Ferry Service in 2025!
