For a person with diabetes, exercise can help with:
🏄🏻♀️ Insulin to work better, which will improve your diabetes management
🏄🏻♀️ Reduce insulin resistance and reduce blood glucose levels
🏄🏻♀️ Improve joint and muscle movement, and strengthen bones
🏄🏻♀️ Maintain a healthy weight
🏄🏻♀️ Lower your blood pressure
🏄🏻♀️ Reduce your risk of heart disease
🏄🏻♀️ Reduce stress and anxiety
🏄🏻♀️ Improve your sleep.
Before you exercise, ask yourself:
Am I feeling well? It’s not recommended to exercise if you are feeling unwell. Take time out to rest and start exercising again when you are feeling better.
Have I checked my BGL?
When you are starting a new exercise routine or changing your current routine, it is important to check your BGLs more regularly. For people who require blood glucose lowering medication or insulin you should check your BGLs before, during and after exercise to avoid hypoglycaemia.
After an exercise session:
Check your BGLs every 20-30 minutes if the intensity, type or duration is new to you, or you experience symptoms of hypoglycaemia or hyperglycaemia.
Simply - Diabetes type 1 and type 2 come from different causes: In diabetes type 1, the pancreas does not make insulin, because the body's immune system attacks the islet cells in the pancreas that make insulin. In diabetes type 2, the pancreas makes less insulin than used to, and your body becomes resistant to insulin.
Beach days incoming 🏄🏻♀️

This month we are talking all things DIABETES!
What is diabetes? Diabetes is a chronic condition that occurs when the pancreas can no longer make insulin, or the body cannot effectively use insulin.
Insulin is a hormone made by the pancreas that acts like a key to let glucose from the food we eat pass from the bloodstream into the cells in the body to produce energy. The body breaks down all carbohydrate foods into glucose in the blood, and insulin helps glucose move into the cells.
When the body cannot produce or use insulin effectively, this leads to high blood glucose levels, called hyperglycaemia. Over the long-term high glucose levels are associated with damage to the body and failure of various organs and tissues.
Does va**ng affect fertility?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Short answer - YES!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Recent animal studies have shown that E-ci******es, even when ni****ne free, include many harmful substances that disturb the hormonal balance and reduce the implantation of embryo in women. It also negatively affects the structure and function of s***m in men.

FERTILITY AWARENESS METHOD
The most common ways of monitoring ovulation that are used in FAM are tracking past periods, changes in cervical fluid and checking and charting basal body temperature (your body temperature when you wake up in the morning, after at least 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep).
Your health practitioner may ask you to use an app to track your cycle and ask you about your cycle data at each appointment!
How accurate is fertility awareness method?
Fertility awareness methods are about 77%–98% effective. That means 2–23 out of 100 couples who use FAMs will get pregnant each year!
Before diving into the specific herbal solutions and healthy lifestyle recommendations, it’s important to understand what your hormone imbalance is. Since different imbalances may produce similar symptoms, we always recommend testing instead of guessing.

Vitex, or chasteberry is our go-to herbal medicine for boosting progesterone naturally - it works at the level of the brain to promote progesterone production and can counteract the symptoms of estrogen dominance that may be caused by low progesterone levels.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A review of 43 studies published from 1997 to 2016 concluded that Vitex agnus-castus is beneficial in treating infertility disorder in both men and women (as well as the treatment of PMS). The researchers hypothesized that chemical compounds in the plant influence the pituitary gland, which in turn decrease prolactin. Decreased prolactin can affect the levels of follicle-stimulating hormones (FSH) as well as estrogen in women and testosterone in men.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A 2019 study of 189 women with menstrual disorders showed that treatment with an herbal supplement containing vitex, maca (Lepidium mayenii), and folate helps regulate the menstrual cycle, stimulates ovulation, and increases the chances of getting pregnant. Ovulation increased from 10 percent to 43 percent in the subjects during the six-month period of the study, with no side effects reported.

You are more fertile today than you will ever be. Age is the single biggest factor affecting the chances of conceiving and having a healthy baby because egg and (to a lesser extent) s***m quantity and quality decline with age. At 20 years old, the chances of getting pregnant are about 25% each month. That number decreases to 20% at 30 years old. By age 40, the chances of getting pregnant each month are less than 5%.
IT’S HERBAL MEDICINE WEEK!
During this week we celebrate the rich history and healing power of naturopathic and herbal medicine while raising awareness about the role our profession plays in modern healthcare.
Stay tuned for some great herbal medicine facts!
Sexually transmitted diseases can directly or indirectly cause infertility in women and in men. When STDs are left untreated, infections can develop that cause infertility by moving up the reproductive system and spreading to the woman’s uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes causing damage, scarring or inflammation.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This is why a pre-conception screening is very important - we recommend speaking with your primary care physician as soon as you decide you want to conceive.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you are looking at trying conceive and aren’t sure what to eat - it may be a good time to pop in and speak to our naturopaths about a tailor made meal plan just for you!
We can review your current diet and provide information about where you may need to make improvements or changes!
Did you know!? You can have a baby without help, and then struggle to get pregnant again. It’s called secondary infertility, which is defined as the inability to conceive or carry a baby to term after previously giving birth. Secondary infertility makes up about 50% of infertility cases. Some of the causes of secondary infertility are the same as primary infertility. Other causes include complications related to a past pregnancy or surgery.
Painful periods can be painful for more reasons than one - they can also signal that all is not well with your fertility. If you experience painful periods and are trying to conceive, you may want to take a step back to examine whether your menstrual cycle is telling you something.
We recommend talking to your primary care physician so they can investigate further 👌🏻

Did you know!?Male-factor infertility is more common than you think. Infertility affects men as much as women. About 30-40% of cases are attributed to the male partner, with an additional 10% coming from a combination of the male and female partner. That means up to 50% of infertile couples struggle to conceive due to a male factor, such as low s***m production, abnormal s***m function or blockages that prevent the delivery of s***m.
We spend a lot of time talking about women’s fertility and the factors that affect female reproductive systems, but male fertility is an equally important conversation. If you’re trying to conceive, it’s essential to understand both male and female fertility, with approximately 30% of fertility problems originating in men. One in six Australian couples experience issues with fertility during their life.
Here are 5 facts you may not know about male fertility.
🧨 Men have a biological clock too
🧨 Smoking harms male fertility
🧨 STDs cause fertility problems
🧨 Hot temperatures may affect male fertility
🧨 A man’s diet affects his s***m quality
Other factors that impact male fertility:
There are many other issues that influence male fertility, including:
- problems with ej*******on
- testicular issues caused by injury, infection or chemotherapy
- multiple sclerosis
- prostatectomy
- diabetes
- antibodies
- hormonal problems

Did you know!?
Studies have found that women with normal levels of Vitamin D are four times more likely to conceive through IVF than those with low levels.
Does the male gut microbiome affect fertility?Yes!
The male microbiome has been shown to impact gamete development, including s***matogenesis and oogenesis. Specifically, studies in mice have demonstrated that the gut microbiome is capable of influencing the expression of genes related to s***matogenesis and steroidogenesis!
Additionally - Semen is important and filled with various microbes supportive of conception.
We offer couples preconception care appointments to address the health of both parents to ensure you have the best fertility outcomes!
Cervical fluid tracking for optimising your fertility:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
As ovulation nears, your discharge will become wet, stretchy and slippery. The most common analogy used for super fertile cervical mucus is looking and feeling like raw egg whites. If you see that texture, you’ll know you’re at your most fertile time.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Type 4 cervical mucus is indicative of the most fertile time of the cycle. In*******se during this period will likely increase your chances of pregnancy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Healthy cervical mucus plays a crucial role in a woman’s fertility by providing a conducive environment for s***m survival and facilitating s***m transport - we love to use the herb SHATAVARI for increasing cervical fluid quality and quantity for those trying to conceive!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Women often ask if there is a natural or ‘at home remedy’ for boosting egg quality, improving fertility, and the chance of pregnancy.
Improve egg quality with these tips:
🥚 Stay Away from ci******es. Smoking speeds up egg loss in the ovaries and increasing oxidative stress.
🥚 Manage stress.
🥚 Eat healthy.
🥚 Achieve a normal BMI (body mass index).
🥚 Invest in supplements such as CoQ10. CoQ10 can boost mitochondrial function as well as antioxidants, improving the quality of eggs!
The thyroid - fertility link 🔗
Both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can cause infertility by affecting ovulation. Women with these conditions may not release an egg once a month during menstruation; in fact, they may not release an egg at all. This makes it difficult to conceive.
With hypothyroidism, your thyroid gland doesn't produce enough of certain important hormones. Low levels of thyroid hormone can interfere with the release of an egg from your o***y (ovulation), which impairs fertility.
