The Lesson we are discussing is
Progressive overload!💪🔥🥇
It’s sounds very scientific but it’s really pretty simple, progressive overload is just progression of an exercise 🏋️♂️
& it is absolutely the cornerstone of any body transformation,in fact lack of progression within workout’s is one of the top 3 things we regularly find wrong when we first meet a new client looking for guidance.
Now I want you Think of Progressive overload as the fire 🔥 of your metabolism recovery & nutrition protocols are the kindling 🪵 that will keep your metabolic fire alight and have a fire that will burn for longer.
But we’ll touch on nutrition and recovery another day.
There are many techniques for overloading muscles but let’s Keep it simple silly
There are 2 main methods that are measuresable and therefore most effective week to week,
They are adding more weight 🏋️♂️
or increasing volume 💪( doing more reps)
Here is some easy to follow examples
If adding weight Is your chosen method,
And you squat 40kg for 12 reps this week you need to increase this next week by any weight! No matter how small even 0.5kg is overload and it counts towards stimulus 💪
Another example adding reps
you squat 40kg for 12 reps this week
you should squat 40kg for 14reps next week.
this rep increase is equivalent to adding a small amount of weight
📣 Doing more reps of a lighter weight is NOT!overload and therefore not stimulating muscles to grow and diminishing your opportunities to change body composition.
To wrap up
If you make progressive overload a cornerstone of your program you do not need to be performing 3-5 sets of an exercise Who has time for that s**t anyway!
Performing 2 working sets at maximum effort (progressive overload) each week
Provided it is performed with correct technique will ensure you WIN!🔥💪
