➡️ Embryo Development - Day 5 & 6 ⬅️
❓So what happens after day 3…?
🔵 On day 5 and day 6, our embryologists will assess the cellular development of your embryo or embryos.
🔵 At this stage, our team hopes to see an embryo that has reached the blastocyst stage.
🔵 A blastocyst has three components: the inner cell mass which goes on to form the baby, the trophectoderm cells which forms the placenta, and a fluid filled cavity which causes the embryo to hatch out of its shell and implant into the uterus.
🔵 If an embryo has all three components, it is likely to be suitable for transfer or freezing. If the embryo is not suitable on day 5, our embryologists will reassess on day 6.
🔵 At Ballarat IVF we welcome our patients to discuss this update with our team, even if day 5 or 6 falls on a weekend 💁🏽♀️

➡️ Fertilisation (part 3) ⬅️
🧬 HA-ICSI:
💉 What is HA- ICSI?
🔘 HA-ICSI is an additional step, involving the use of Hyaluronan (HA). HA exists in the cells around the egg. In nature, HA attracts s***m to the egg, and plays a role in the selection of the best s***m for fertilisation.
🔘 To mimic this natural process in the laboratory, a small amount of HA is added to the injection dish. The best s***m can then be identified by the embryologist and used for the ICSI process.
🔘 HA-ICSI can improve cycle outcomes when clinically indicated.

➡️ Fertilisation (part 2) ⬅️
🧬 IVF vs ICSI:
🧫 What is IVF fertilisation?
➡️ If the semen analysis for the s***m being used is normal, then an IVF fertilisation technique would likely be recommended.
➡️ For a standard IVF cycle, the eggs are collected and placed into a special dish. Approximately 100,000 normal and active s***m are added to the eggs. The most naturally competent s***m then reach and fertilise the eggs.
💉 What is ICSI?
➡️ ICSI is most commonly used for couple who have male factor infertility. This is where the semen analysis is outside the normal ranges, and the chances of a natural pregnancy are reduced.
➡️ In an ICSI cycle the eggs which have been collected are prepared and assessed for maturity. Your embryologist then prepares and selects the most competent looking s***m for the ICSI procedure. They then carefully inject the s***m into the egg, leading to fertilisation.

➡️ Fertilisation ⬅️
🧬 What is it…?
The combination of an egg and a s***m to create an embryo.
💭 How do we get there?
➡️ There are a number of factors that will determine the method of fertilisation used in a cycle, which will be considered, discussed and explained by our team.
➡️ In the Ballarat IVF lab, fertilisation is achieved by two main methods; IVF (invitro fertilisation) and ICSI (Intra cytoplasmic s***m injection).

How good is MDHS having Astro the awesome Poodle in their team as the director of joy!
Such a favourite!
Time flies! It seems like yesterday that Russell and Glenda meet and worked together at Ballarat Health Services in the Operating room. Glenda joined Ballarat IVF in 2006 as leader of the nursing team, and has played a huge role in providing excellent services to our patients. After a well earned break Glenda will change to a consulting role with BIVF, supporting the current generation of dedicated nurses and leaders. She’s kind or retiring, kind of not! After such a long time it will be change for us all, but we wish Glenda well, and and we can’t thank her enough for her friendship, expertise and support.
Big weekend on the Gold Coast for some of our OGB/BIVF Docs….

Ballarat IVF was established by Medical Director, Dr Russell Dalton in 2002, with a strong focus on personalized fertility care. Dr Dalton leads a caring, highly trained team who work together to help people achieve their dream of becoming parents.
Our Reception staff, Fertility Specialists, Nurses and Scientists aim to ensure that all patients who use our service are fully informed and supported as they receive the very best of fertility care. Most couples attending Ballarat IVF for fertility problems are able to have a baby without IVF.
We work carefully with patients to identify their particular fertility issues, as each couple hoping to have a baby is different, with a range of possible factors leading to their lack of success. Often by thorough assessment and individualized treatment, a pregnancy can be achieved without more involved therapy. When you attend Ballarat IVF for fertility advice, you will receive individualized treatment, with a Fertility treatment plan formulated on the most current research based information.
