I've got a little pet peeve, and it's all about birth plans being called "birth preferences." Let's get one thing straight - these aren't just your "preferences." Your birth plan is a powerful summary of your informed decisions. ๐โจ
It's not just a piece of paper where you jot down what you'd prefer during childbirth. No, it's so much more than that! Your birth plan is your roadmap to a positive birthing experience. ๐บ๏ธ๐
Here's why it matters:
1๏ธโฃ Clear Communication: Your birth plan helps you communicate clearly with your caregiver team, ensuring everyone is on the same page.
2๏ธโฃ Mitigating Birth Trauma: It's a tool to reduce the risk of birth trauma by outlining your expectations and desires.
3๏ธโฃ Values and Research: Your birth plan allows you to align your choices with your values and prior research.

๐ Gratitude is in the air as I eagerly await the start of our September Hypnobirthing Classes! It's a privilege to witness the transformation of Mamas and their birth partners as they step into their power, embracing a positive and calm birthing experience.
So, here I share with you 5 simple ways to create an optimal birthing environment:
1๏ธโฃ Keep The Lights Dim: Keeping the ambiance gentle and dim can work wonders. Dim lighting triggers the release of melatonin, which synergises with oxytocin to promote more efficient contractions. Additionally, melatonin supports the release of endorphins โ our body's natural pain relief (Remember, endorphins are 20-40 times more potent than Morphine).
2๏ธโฃ Play Soft Calming Music: Did you know that our brains process pain and music using the same neural pathways? By filling those pathways with soothing music, we reduce the receptors available to process pain. Also, associating certain music with calm comforting feelings. This not only benefits mothers but everyone in the room.
3๏ธโฃ Be Picky With Who Is In The Room With You: This is YOUR time, Mama! It's perfectly okay to set boundaries. Well-meaning friends and family may inadvertently bring their fears and energy into the birthing space. To protect the atmosphere you're cultivating, have open conversations and set boundaries well in advance. This applies to your caregivers too. If you're not in sync with your midwife, doula, or OB, you have every right to make a change.
4๏ธโฃ Pop That Atomiser On: Certain essential oils can promote calmness, relaxation, and anxiety relief while potentially boosting oxytocin levels. They also serve as anchors, helping you transition from your mind to your body โ precisely where you need to be during birth. Dive deeper into this topic on my blog:

Mindset Matters in Pregnancy and Birth
Have you ever heard the saying, "The mind is a powerful thing"? It's true, and nowhere is this more evident than in pregnancy and birth.
Your mindset can have a big impact on your birth experience. If you go into labor with a negative mindset, you're more likely to experience fear, anxiety, and pain. This can lead to a more difficult and intervention-heavy birth.
On the other hand, if you have a positive mindset, you're more likely to experience calmness, confidence, and empowerment. This can lead to a more natural and positive birth experience.
So how can you cultivate a positive mindset for birth? Here are a few tips:
โจEducate yourself about childbirth. The more you know about what to expect, the less fearful you'll be.
๐โโ๏ธFind a supportive partner or doula. Having someone who believes in you and can help you stay calm and focused can make a big difference.
๐งโโ๏ธPractice relaxation techniques. Meditation, yoga, and deep breathing can help you stay calm and centered during labor.
๐Visualize a positive birth experience. Picture yourself giving birth in a relaxed and calm environment. See yourself feeling confident and empowered.
Remember, your mindset is powerful. It can have a big impact on your birth experience. So choose to believe in yourself and your body. Choose to have a positive mindset. And choose to have a beautiful birth.
P.S. Think of childbirth like golf. If you get in your head, you're more likely to shank your drive. But if you stay focused and positive, you're more likely to hit a hole-in-one. The same is true for childbirth. So keep your head in the game and have a beautiful birth!

Endorphins the hormone of Pleasure and our bodyโs natural pain relief. It can also regulate the pace of your labour.
We release copious amounts of endorphins during labour and levels steadily rise in unmedicated births.
Studies have shown a sharp drop in endorphin levels when epidurals and opioid medications are used.

Minimising them, distracting ourselves from them , thinking positively in the hope they will just go away is doing yourself a disservice Mamaโฆbecause they live in the subconscious and itโs vital we get curious and bring them to the surface to be released.
How do we do that? ๐ค
1: Acknowledge - Itโs okay to be scared, itโs okay to feel uncertain , itโs ok to feel anxious. Acknowledge whatโs coming up for you.

2:Look at your fears and get curious.
To have this fear means there is a belief behind it.
-What is that belief? Write it down.
-Where did this belief come from?
Write it down. You may be surprised by your answer.
I guarantee you most of these beliefs have been inherited whether that be from a family member, a well meaning friend, and even from movies/tv/media where birth is sensationalised.
-Ask yourself: Do I want to believe this?
If notโฆthen letโs upgrade the belief!
I want you to now rewrite your list and instead with the upgraded belief.
This now becomes your list of affirmations. ๐๐ป
The subconscious loves repetition. Place your list somewhere you will see every day and read them, read them again & again.
Itโs important to mention sometimes our fears come from a lack of information and this is why birth preparation and planning is vital๐

They tell us how to grow a baby. What to eat.
What not to eat. What vitamins to take and what bras to buy. Allll the prenatal yoga moves to do.
But they forget to tell us how to put ourselves back together once that baby is born.
They forget to tell us how we might feel like weโre drifting.
Afloat. Alone. On a life raft with leaky breasts and sore stitches and a tiny little being dependent upon us for survival.
They forget to tell us how weird and wild it feels to have loose organs shifting about inside of us. How there will be so much softness still.
I get it. You donโt want to startle us. You donโt want us to be scared about whatโs ahead.
Butโฆ.a little heads up would be helpful
Weโre brave enough for the truth.
And those things you find so scary- loose skin and leaky breasts and big feelings- we might just be bold enough to welcome them.
To see the beauty there.
So hereโs the truth mama-
Your pelvic floor will probably need work and attention. Youโll have to put in some effort to regain that muscle strength, no matter how gentle your birth. Your breasts and belly will probably never be the same. Love them anyway. Love than more than before!! Celebrate them! Buy bras that make you feel sexy. Then move on.
Your identity and sense of self will change radically. Buckle up for the ride. Youโve got this. Your partnership and friendships and general relationship with the outside world might feel foreign for awhile. Or forever. Those relationships might crack and break under the weight of new parenthood. Live your truth. Leave the rest behind. In love.
The whole world might feel shaken up.
Youโll probably feel shaky and raw
Thatโs normal (they just forgot to tell you.)
Youโre new here. In this skin. In this role. In this love. Youโll find your way. Youโll find your rhythm. It will all fall into place- with time.
Until then- breathe.
As deeply as you can.
Drink your tea before it gets cold.
