It is with sadness that the Balnarring Picnic Racing Club (BPRC) acknowledges the passing of its #1 Life Member, Henry (Harry) Bowden Dickson.

In 1956, Harry was invited to join the Racing Club, an invitation he gladly accepted along with his wife, who became a member of the ladies committee. Harry enthusiastically took on various responsibilities as a committeeman, contributing significantly to the club's development.

He fondly recalls the collaborative efforts during working bees, where they built the viewing mound and cleared bush to prepare for the clubrooms, which were relocated from the Flinders Golf Club.

During his tenure, Harry remembers a time when the jockeys had only a tent for their changing room, highlighting the club's humble beginnings and gradual improvements over the years.

In recognition of his exceptional dedication and service, Harry was honored with life membership in the early 1970s, a well-deserved acknowledgment of his enduring contributions to the club.

Harry's community involvement extended beyond the racing club; he owned the dairies in Hastings, Crib Point, and Somers.

In recent years, we have been fortunate to celebrate milestone birthdays with Harry, including his most recent 105th birthday. His longevity is a testament to his resilience, wisdom, and enduring presence in our community.

Harry was a true gentleman and loved by all that had the privilege of knowing him.

The BPRC extends its deepest condolences to Harry’s extended family and friends.

To all the volunteers at country race clubs across Victoria - THANK YOU for your ongoing commitment and support!

We were deeply humbled to take home this year’s award for Picnic Club of the Year at Saturday’s Victorian Picnic Racing Awards. Congratulations to all award winners!

A huge thank you to our Committee, volunteers, suppliers and vendors, sponsors, participants, members and patrons for your continued support - it’s the collective contribution of many people and organisations that make our great picnic product.

A big shout out to all Picnic Clubs across Victoria and their volunteers and supporters - over 40,000 people attended picnic racing meetings across the season - congratulations on making 23/24 such a successful picnic season.

It is a privilege to continue to support grassroots racing and serve racing industry participants, racing patrons, and our local communities. We look forward to an even bigger and better 24/25 season!
