The album was made over a two-day session on November 18–19, 1967 at the RCA studios in Hollywood, and it featured the best musicians in Hollywood (including many of the key members of "The Wrecking Crew"), including ten trumpets, ten trombones, ten saxophones, two drummers, five percussionists, four pianos, eight basses, seven guitars.

1970 - Magnetic South

"Magnetic South" is the first solo album by Michael Nesmith during his post-Monkees career. Released in 1970, the album peaked at Number 143 on the Billboard Pop Albums charts and Number 49 in Canada. "Magnetic South" is considered a pioneering example of country rock. "Joanne" backed with "One Rose" was issued as a single from the album, reaching Number 21 on the Billboard singles charts and Number 6 on the Adult Contemporary charts, #5 on the Australian chart, and #4 in Canada. "Joanne" was the highest charting single of Nesmith's entire solo career.

Magnetic South was only a moderate commercial success, but the album did succeed in reinventing Nesmith and helped somewhat in escaping his image as a Monkee.

CROSBY, STILLS & NASH

1969 Crosby, Stills & Nash

The album was a very strong debut for the band, instantly lifting them to stardom. and helped initiate a sea change in popular music away from the ruling late-1960s aesthetic of bands playing blues-based rock music on loud guitars.

The album features some of their best-known songs, including "Helplessly Hoping", "Long Time Gone", "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes", and "Wooden Ships", a collaboration between Crosby and Stills as well as Paul Kantner of Jefferson Airplane.

On the cover the members are, left to right, Nash, Stills, and Crosby, the reverse of the order of the album title. The photo was taken by their friend and photographer Henry Diltz before they came up with a name for the group. They found an abandoned house with an old, battered sofa outside, located at 815 Palm Avenue, West Hollywood that they thought would be a perfect fit for their image. A few days later they decided on the name "Crosby, Stills, and Nash". To prevent confusion, they went back to the house a day or so later to re-shoot the cover in the correct order, but when they got there they found the house had been demolished

1977 - CSN

"CSN" is the third studio album by Crosby, Stills & Nash, released on June 17, 1977. It is the group's second studio release in the trio configuration. It peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard Top Pop Albums chart; two singles taken from the album, Nash's "Just a Song Before I Go" (No. 7) and Stills' "Fair Game" (No. 43) charted on the Billboard Hot 100. It is currently the trio configuration's best-selling record, outselling 1969's "Crosby, Stills & Nash" by 200,000 copies. It has been certified quadruple platinum by RIAA

Many of Stills' songs on the album echo his marital problems, with "Dark Star" returning to the Latin rhythms he had favoured back to his Buffalo Springfield days. Crosby continued the existential probings consistent with much of his past work, and Nash offered both a radio-ready acoustic ballad with "Just a Song Before I Go", and an elaborate set piece re-creating a vision of an L*D experience that he had in Wi******er Cathedral with "Cathedral". Many tracks included a string section, a first on a CSN project.

1. "Shadow Captain" 4:32
2. "See the Changes" 2:56

SPLIT ENZ

1975 - Mental Notes

Much of the material derived from Tim Finn's and Phil Judd's fascination with the work of the renowned English writer and artist Mervyn Peake – notably "Spellbound", the epic track "Stranger Than Fiction" (their concert centrepiece) and "Titus", named after the hero of Peake's Gormenghast trilogy.

2006 - Frenzy

"Frenzy" is the fourth studio album by Split Enz. "Frenzy" ventured beyond the band's art rock roots to more of a pop sound.

Reviewed in Roadrunner at the time of release, it was described as, "a very mature and subtle piece of vinyl ... although not as immediately stunning as the stark "Mental Notes" or as smoothly polished as the sleek "Second Thoughts". This a creative work of appreciable depth." Particularly praised were "I See Red", "Give It A Whirl" and "Hermit McDermitt" (for its "unique demented hillbilly sound")

CAN

1969 - Monster Movie

Previously the band had been known as "Inner Space", which later became the name of their recording studio. Some copies of the LP bore the subtitle "Made in a castle with better equipment" referring to Schloss Nörvenich, the 14th-century castle in Nörvenich, North Rhine-Westphalia, where the band recorded from 1968–69.

"Monster Movie" brings together elements of psychedelic rock, blues, free jazz, world music and other styles, the influence of the Velvet Underground being particularly obvious on the opening track "Father Cannot Yell". The use of improvisation, experimentation, tape editing and layering of sounds set a standard for Can's subsequent albums in the early 1970s, which helped form the style labeled "krautrock" by the British music press. The 20-minute closing track "Yoo Doo Right" was edited down from 6 hours of improvisation. The lyrics of "Mary, Mary So Contrary" are based on the English nursery rhyme "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary".

2. "Mary, Mary So Contrary" 6:22
3. "Outside My Door" 4:11

1971 - Tago Mago

"Tago Mago" saw Can changing to a jazzier and more experimental sound than with previous recordings, with longer instrumental interludes and fewer vocals. Can took sonic inspiration from sources including jazz musicians such as Miles Davis and from electronic avant-garde composers such as Karlheinz Stockhausen. The album was also inspired by English occultist Aleister Crowley; it is named for 'Illa de Tagomago', an island that features in the Crowley legend, and the track "Aumgn" is named for Crowley's interpretation of the Hindu mantra syllable Om. Czukay described the album as "an attempt in achieving a mystery musical world from light to darkness and return." The group has referred to the album as their "magic record," and the music has been described as having an "air of mystery and forbidden secrets."

"Tago Mago" has been critically acclaimed, and is credited with pioneering various modern musical styles. Raggett called "Tago Mago" a "rarity of the early '70s, a double album without a wasted note." Many critics, particularly in the United Kingdom, were eager to praise the album, and by the end of 1971 Can had played their first show in the country.

Julian Cope wrote in Krautrocksampler that "Tago Mago" "sounds only like itself, like no-one before or after" and described the lyrics as delving "below into the Unconscious." Dummy called it "a genre-defining work of psychedelic, experimental rock music." Melody Maker critic Simon Reynolds described it as "shamanic avant-funk."

"Tago Mago" is listed in the 2005 book "1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die", which states: "Even after 30 years Tago Mago sounds refreshingly contemporary and gloriously extreme."

It peaked at No. 6 on the ARIA Albums Chart to become Morris' first top ten album and the highest selling album of his career.

2014 Van Diemen's Land

"Van Diemen's Land" is a studio album by Russell Morris. It was released on 11 April 2014. The album peaked at number 4 on the ARIA Charts, becoming Morris' highest chart album in his career

"Van Diemen's Land" covers great Australian characters and stories including Breaker Morant, Sandakan and Eureka Rebellion

Liz Giuffre from The Music AU said; "Clearly yearning for an old Australia, or at least wanting to have fun with some old myths and styles of old music, Russell Morris has delivered a mellow collection with "Van Diemen's Land". Morris mixes international influences with local references from over time for his latest release. [It's] a good collection of folk/blues and national myths delivered by a man who knows his way around the local biz."

Courtney Laura of Reverb Online said; "It is evident through the detailed lyrics that he has spent quality time researching wonderful Australian stories and national myths, and constructing them into a collection of stunning folk and blues tracks. Throughout the whole album, Morris’s voice doesn’t waver as he adapts his vocals to each individual song and admirably clearly enunciates the stories through the lyrics. As each track is an unfolding story, they too have their own identity within the musicianship accompanying Morris." adding "Showcasing the spirit and history of our country, this is yet another of Morris’s projects to go out and add to your collection."

Michael Dwyer of Rolling Stone Australia said; "Like its predecessor, Van Diemen’s Land is all-true Aussie histories strung up on wiry blues arrangements like so many pages cut from yellowing broadsheets. The panorama spans colonial horrors to WW2 bombers and Japanese labour camps; dramas on river and sea and character portraits from Birdsville to Kings Cross. Morris’s voice is never less than totally engaged and engaging.”
