Foodie Friday: Fuel Your Body, Nourish Your Soul
Eating well is about more than just food. It's about fueling your body, boosting your mood, and feeling good inside and out. Here are some tips for a healthier, happier you:
* Eat the Rainbow: Fill your plate with colorful fruits and veggies. They're packed with nutrients that keep you feeling your best.
* Keep it Simple: You don't need fancy recipes to eat well. Focus on whole, unprocessed foods that are easy to prepare.
* Mindful Eating: Slow down and savor each bite. Pay attention to your body's hunger and fullness cues.
* Hydrate: Water is essential for overall health. Carry a reusable bottle with you and sip throughout the day.
* Balance is Key: Enjoy treats in moderation. It's okay to indulge occasionally, just don't overdo it.
Remember, everyone's dietary needs are different. If you have a disability and need extra support around food textures, sensory sensitivities, or other challenges, your Support Coordinator can help connect you with a dietitian or other health professional. Your GP can also provide valuable guidance on diet and wellness.
🚨 Breaking News: Federal Government Responds to Disability Royal Commission 🚨
Today, the Australian Government released its long-awaited response to the Disability Royal Commission's final report, which was delivered on September 29, 2023.
The report outlines 222 crucial recommendations designed to transform laws, policies, and practices across Australia, aiming to build a more inclusive and just society for people with disabilities.
After delaying its response for four months, the Federal government has now addressed 172 of the Disability Royal Commission recommendations. They’ve committed to 13 key actions, such as strengthening the Disability Discrimination Act and updating Australia’s Disability Strategy.
They've also agreed in principle to 117 additional recommendations, which means they generally accept the reforms but are not ready to commit to them exactly as proposed.
Here are some key highlights from the government’s response:
💰 $12.3 million for a national approach to accessible information and communication, including better access to interpreters and Auslan.
💵 $19.6 million to boost disability responsiveness in professional workforces and support grassroots efforts to improve community understanding of disability.
📚 Increased support for educators and schools to foster more inclusive education and enhance outcomes for students with disabilities.
Minister for Social Services, the Hon. Amanda Rishworth, reaffirmed the government's commitment to realizing the vision of an Australian community free from violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation for people with disabilities.
While the response is a good start, continued consultation and action will be essential to ensure these recommendations are fully implemented.
Stay tuned for more updates as we consider the response in more detail.

Feeling a bit isolated? You're not alone. Making friends can be tough, especially if you have anxiety, find social cues confusing, or are on a tight budget. But here in Bendigo, there are lots of ways to connect with others who get it:
* Groups with Shared Interests: Check out local groups for hobbies you enjoy, like art, music, or gaming. It's a great way to meet people who share your passions.
* Community Events: Bendigo hosts lots of free or low-cost events, from markets to live music. You might meet new people just by striking up a conversation.
* Online Communities: Social media groups and forums can be a great way to connect with people locally or from all over. Look for groups that focus on your interests or disability.

🌟 Let's focus more on the resources and strengths of individuals with BPD! 🌟
Challenge: Find a piece of paper and write down three strengths you recognise in yourself or someone you know with BPD.
Keep in mind that individuals with lived experience often reveal that their most powerful strengths have sometimes led to their greatest struggles.
If you care about someone with BPD aim to identify and acknowledge their strengths both to yourself and them in a thoughtful and compassionate way. ❤️
