Cornella Brewery Canyonero & Marching On Together 03/05/2024

Another fun write up for The Crafty Pint and the team at Cornella Brewery

Cornella Brewery Canyonero & Marching On Together Craft beer's packaging often draws inspiration from popular culture. Nods to TV, classic film, sports, or simply nostalgia are part and parcel of the craft beer industry and for Cornella Brewery, their double release sees them lean into some favourites for the brewery's founders. Cornella Brewery Electro Dude & Old Town 15/03/2024

Celebrate St Patrick's Day while still supporting your local brewery. Or, if you believe the myth that stouts are heavy beers for winter only, try the tropical Electro Dude instead.

Cornella Brewery Electro Dude & Old Town Cornella Brewery has been experimenting with Nectaron for some time. In late 2021, I wrote about Electro Nectar for the [Bendigo Beer blog](https://bendigobeer.com/cornella-brewery-electro-nectar/) and that was followed by Neutron Nectar in March 2022. **Electro Dude** continues the brewery's romanc...

No-name beers revisited 18/01/2024

Are craft beer consumers tiring of pithy names in favour of simple descriptors that relieve the mental load when choosing. There's certainly a lot to choose from these days. Perhaps standing out is no longer clever and memorable, but simple and accessible. But what does this do to the rich culture of craft beer?

Hop On Brewery Tours aren't just a beer tour service. They're passionate supporters of the industry and more knowledgeable about the space than they get credit for.

Read along for their thoughts on craft beer names.

No-name beers revisited A beer without a name What do you think of when you see the names Fat Tire, Mirror Pond, Delerium Tremens, Dead Guy, Death from Above, Pliny the Elder, Fat Yak, Tripel Karmeliet or Super Hornet?

Shedshaker Brewing Scotch Ale & New England IPA 08/12/2023

Love writing up beers at The Crafty Pint for my friends at Shedshaker Brewing

Shedshaker Brewing Scotch Ale & New England IPA With this duo of beers, Castlemaine's Shedshaker Brewing continues its foray into less familiar territory while refining old favourites amongst staunch brewery supporters. In terms of style, they make for an odd pair given ones a rarely seen scotch and the other is a near ubiquitous hazy under the N...

Cornella slide into summer with the smooth grooves of Astro Dude 05/11/2023

Cornella slide into summer with the smooth grooves of Astro Dude As summer approaches, the team at Cornella Brewery shifts its focus to producing refreshing, easy-drinking beers. As such, Astro Dude signals the last of the brewery's bigger, hop-laden releases for the year. Pale amber with a slight haze, the beer's frothy, slowly dissipating white head leaves beau...

This is a Festbier. It's the style of lager served in Germany at traditional Oktoberfest events.

But, this one was made not far from where I live.

If you're going to a local Oktoberfest event, particularly one with traditional German style food made with local ingredients...

Ask them if they're serving locally made beer too.

Cornella Brewery Vicious Annie & Mango Salsa 06/10/2023

Great beers. Fun write up. But I slid in an 80's film reference for good measure.

Cornella Brewery Vicious Annie & Mango Salsa Visitors to Cornella Brewery should be familiar with Annie. She's gentle and friendly, like the brewery's flagship NEIPA that shares her name. But something's found its way into the playful pup's water: now she's frothing at the mouth and eating the furniture. She's donned a leather jacket, styled a...

Coopers and IBA call out retailers on market power 28/07/2023

I've written about this a few times in my blog's 'Who Owns My Beer?' series.

Most beer drinkers, even those who aren't too fussed with such things, know that historically there have been two main players in the beer market, Carlton United Breweries, makers of Cartlon Draught, VB, Great Northern etc., and Lion, who most people recognise for Thooeys branded beers. The craft beer brands they own, Furphy, James Squire, Balter, Pirate Life, Stone & Wood, and others, are widely known.

But there are new players in the beer space, and their cleverly branded products and marketing strategy are going relatively unnoticed even to discerning beer drinkers. Both Coles and Endeavor Drinks Group (Dan Murphy's and BWS) are releasing more and more of their own beer products onto their shelves and edging out the independent brewers they purported to support during the pandemic. With the market data they've gathered, and don't share, they can replicate and replace those products, capitalising on the innovation of small producers and taking none of the risk.

Lobbyists for small independent brewers, such as the Independent Brewers Association , have a fraction of the resources of the supermarket duopoly. The ACCC is a toothless tiger and government are only interested if there are votes in it.

However, we can all affect change if we insist on locally made, independently owned beer from our bottleshops and pubs.

I'll have more to say on this soon and I'm working on something to help those who care where their beer money is being spent.

Until then, support local and ask for indie beer.

#414 One Dollar Milk 17/04/2023

Cornella's Bucolic Wine Country Brewery 08/12/2022

Cornella's Bucolic Wine Country Brewery When it comes to alcohol, there can be a tendency to divide. Beer drinkers are beer drinkers and wine drinkers are wine drinkers.
