At Baby Peppers, we're all about fun and colours with an ethnic edge.
We sell a wide range of fair trade and socially conscious handmade goods such as blankets, quilts and wooden toys. Drawing inspiration from our Indian cultural and ancestry roots, we couldn't help but give our products an ethnic edge as well. We sell a wide range of handmade baby goods all inspired by a variety of things - centuries' old hand-block prints, vibrant colours, basket weaving, vegetabl
Love the morning rays spilling onto our mint paisley cot sheets. Mint has been my go to colour for the cooler months, do you have a colour you are drawn to lately?
Stamp your own success! Some years ago I hired a social media coach that said that my posts are at the mercy of the social media algorithms, and that I have to carefully curate my feed to appease the AI. So I batched my content (I would create 2 weeks' worth of content in advance), jigged my posts to match aesthetic colour themes, carefully chose 25 hashtags that had a balanced reach (not too much and not too little) and consistently engaged with posts from other similar businesses. The end result = extreme burn out and no difference to my sales. I resented the business as I started looking at it like a chore and with remorse. I didn't feel the whimsical fun that I had always envisioned that I would experience when I am running my own business.
✨
Fast forward to 7 years, I am marching to the beat of my own drum. I post when I want to, I feel happiness and joy when I post, I do things from my heart and my posts have zero hashtags, meaning it can reach whomever it wants to without any intent of specific audience. Whilst data analytics and insights are important for any financial metric, don't lose the essence of yourself in your business. Your business is an extension of you and if that doesn't shine through, then it's very likely that you are not setting yourself up for success. Keep doing you!
Blocks of Sheesham wood stacked and ready for carving our designs. The Sheesham tree is native to the Indian subcontinent and offers a range of not only physical benefits such as great resistance to termites but also profound energetic benefits.
🌳
Sheesham is often said to restore balance and harmony and helps to recalibrate the nervous system. It is for the same reason that the wood is a popular choice for sacred objects, ritual tools, and meditation aids. Many spiritual practitioners naturally choose Sheesham to work with at first instance.
🌳
It is no coincidence that I am so drawn to these blocks and have them at the core of my business.
The motifs and designs carved onto the wooden blocks are not random patterns. Each line, dot, curve, all come together to tell a story and narrative that becomes uniquely yours to experience.
🐪
Many of the traditional patterns represent the rich and diverse history of Jaipur and often depict the sun together with various flora and fauna. Here you can see one of the artisans transfer the drawings onto the wooden blocks through a tracing paper before starting the carving process. Such incredible artistry.
Writing about woodblock making doesn't do this incredible art form any justice. Sometimes you have to witness certain processes first hand to truly understand the intensity and marvel behind them.
🌿
The wooden blocks used to print on our quilts are carved by hereditary craftsmen known as masters. Most of our masters are third generation carvers from a 400 year old carving lineage.
🌿
Fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers and even beyond - they all only knew one art and they were mighty good at it. We are so incredibly grateful that our little business still gives these artisans a living they can be proud of.
Our Kalamkari quilts and matching plushies have been making their way to newborns, both at homes and to hospitals and they make great welcome gifts.
✨
The fabrics are dyed with organic vegetable dyes and the fabrication from start to finish takes 17 painstaking steps. The whole process is an art in itself and interestingly, Kalamkari textiles were also used in barter trade in exchange of spices during the ancient times. This reinforces how valuable and sustainable these fabrics can be. Have you got a favourite blanket from your younger days?
I have been talking to some mums down South and they have shared with me how cold it is and that they are dreaming of whimsical summer picnics! We love exploring the outdoors and we would love to know what are some of your favourite picnic spots! This photo was taken some years back at the beautiful Rosalind Park in Bendigo, a stunning picnic spot🌼🍂
Bed-time never looked cheekier with our hand-blocked quilts and cot sheet sets. All our blankets and bedding are stitched and quilted with 100% pre-washed cotton. Washed cotton usually gives a relaxed lived-in feel and the washing fades the colour slightly from the fabric giving it an effortless vintage look. Definitely our kind of vibe 🙏🩵💙
Did you know that our wooden toys are 100% organic and safe for little teethers?
🏎
The colourful dyes are made from vegetables and the lacquer used to gloss the surface of the toys is extracted from lac insects which secrete a sticky, honey-like substance on the trees they breed in. Lac cultivation provides a livelihood for millions of lac farmers in India and is a fundamental part of preserving the lac ecosystem. The harvest is done in a safe manner where the resinous substance is only extracted after the lac insects have migrated to another host plant or tree.
🏎
Do you have a favourite toy from our wooden range? We would love to hear your feedback 🧡
There is something so calming about seeing a stack of freshly laundered quilts, especially during these cooler months. Anyone else as strange as me? 🤦♀️
✨
Our Blue Sparkles + Four Leaves bring a subtle and neutral vibe to your child's room if you don't want that colourful pop or have it too monochrome. They come with matching cot sheets too and we can always mix and match for a bit of adventure!
Our animal quilts have been popular choices as baby shower gifts and this fish quilt is on its way to Mornington as we speak.
🐟
We love the demure shade of olive for the body and emerald green for the outlines. It takes us right back to quiet creeks and rivers teeming with so much life. The fish is often said to symbolise the ebb and flow of life together with abundance and prosperity as fish usually travel in shoals and schools. Nature's defence mechanism, safety in numbers! 🐟
We execute the logistics but the real stars of the show are our makers. Our little business is nothing without our immensely talented artisans who toil day and night to keep our stocks flowing.
💫
He’s a master carver using a drill press to bore precision holes onto the blocks. Hand tools are the most prevalent tools used for wood-carving but occasionally, the big old school toys come out too depending on the type of designs. It’s a breathtaking process to watch 🌿🍂
This morning, we were feeling all of the Friday feels 🙄. Whether to sleep in that bit longer or to wake up early and prep for school drop off and then work after! What’s on for the weekend folks? ❤️
The carved wooden blocks we use for block printing are just as stunning as the prints that are stamped onto the fabric.
💫
Each block takes a minimum of 7 days to carve, if not more depending on the complexity of the design.
💫
To us, block-printed fabrics are one of the most artistic and beautiful fabrics to exist. It is the oldest form of printing and every day we express the deepest gratitude to be able to recreate these fabrics and sustain ancient art forms for our customers to experience 🙏🏽💫
Our dohars have been very popular regardless of the seasons as they work well during both warm and cooler months.
💫
Stitched with three layers of the softest cotton voile, they are great at regulating your baby's body temperature and come with a multitude of uses - stroller covers, feeding, and bassinet and cot lining. We are running low on stocks, so if there is one that takes your fancy, I'll do my best to get the same design or suggest similar ones!
Everything about our hand-blocked blankets and their aesthetics is rooted in centuries old literature and art. I wanted to revive these generational crafts using ancient symbology as their patterns.
💫
One side of this blanket features the paisley, a pattern symbolising twists and turns of life’s journey, each curve representing different phases in life. Similarly, the reverse side features a bandhani dot print, a pattern which has its roots in the oldest tie-dye method. The intricate dots symbolise the metaphorical bonds of relationships, families and communities.
💫
The patterns we choose for our blankets often hold deep spiritual and cultural significance. I would love to know if you intentionally buy products that carry rich meanings for you. Please share your experiences!
Is there anything more delicious than soft, squishy baby thighs on the softest cotton handblocked quilts?

Animal symbology is something that I’m deeply passionate about.
🐴
When we were designing our animal quilt and cotsheet collection, we chose animals with unique strengths, of which the horse is one. The horse is a legendary animal both in real life and folklore, symbolising independence, freedom, endurance and courage. Much like this happy little man experiencing such beautiful wonderment of everything around him. A very happy Mother’s Day to all mums, whether you are here with us in physical or spirit form 🧡🥰❤️
We don’t mean it lightly when we say that our quilts make for great heirloom gifts. It may sound far-fetched but we have every intention to ensure that our products can last for generations.
💫
That’s why it’s so endearing when mums share with us that they have been using our blankets from the birth of one bub right through to passing them down to younger siblings or cousins. This sweet mumma has just shared a photo of her using our quilts for her third bub and their beautiful morning beach walks 🌅 🧡
The primary herbs in my cooking these days have been mostly mint and coriander. There’s something about the cooler months that just gives me the with its calming approach. Interestingly mums have also shared feedback that our mint paisley quilts with the subdued green hues give off a very relaxing vibe for their bubs, especially just before bed time. Matching cot sheets and quilts available online now 🍃🌱
Our 🦚 quilts have been very popular as baby shower gifts and one is on its way to its forever home now as we speak. They are so versatile and add a pop of colour to any accessory, be it the bassinet, the bed, the stroller, the park or even the 🏝! Big props to all our supporters, thank you for always thinking of us for your gifting needs 🎁 💝
There's something about paisley and picnics. Knowing that our customers use our quilts years after purchase gives us the best feeling as that is testament to the quality of generational handmade crafts and further drives our mission with sustainability.
💫
Orla has been using this quilt pretty much from birth and now, she is playing picnic and cooking on it with her big brother, Leo. Do you have a favourite blanket (it doesn’t have to be ours) that you have been using for years? Would love to hear the story behind it x
Trust is a foundational element of any business, and a good way to build it with your customers is to show them you use your products on your own family and loved ones.
💫
I have been using all my bedding linen, quilts and blankets on my little ones since day dot.
💫
Building trust comes from vulnerability - the ability to share your pain points and struggles without reservation and brainstorm solutions with your community on how you can move forward.
💫
My little business was born out of frustration. Of not finding suitable bedding or blankets to keep my little one safe, snug and warm.
💫
Where something doesn't exist, be resolute in creating it. The resources will come together for you x
This gorgeous picnic weather in Bendigo has been giving us all the summer feels. All we crave for is to spend time outdoors soaking up the magic of the sun. Do you have a favourite blanket that you bring along to picnics? 🧺 ☀️
