Just thought I’d show you a little something I have been working on, looks a little different now , two days work and bathroom is completely upgraded…

This is not what usually do all day, I work where I can, and sometimes I rest up… How big is this bath? Six foot long and deep… so … please excuse me while I catch a few 💤

Sometimes…. Just sometimes, I actually impress myself , check out the before picture

I finally got to coat the inside of this bath. I’ve had it for a while , but the amount of work to getting this has been … well , let’s just say I stopped counting the hours . The biggest hurdle has been cleared and now fitting it together.
I have no idea of history , but I’m guessing at least 130 plus years old .
Heavy as a small car ( I’m exaggerating… ) it’s been a long endeavour…

And…. It’s done

Remember this bath , well it’s almost completed , color on outside tomorrow…

I just wanted to explain a few things , show off a few things and hopefully you will be wiser.
Anyway this is a little Australiana…
So, many years ago, around the turn of the century , we had cast iron claw foot baths , and also these galvanised iron baths with cast feet.
These were the working man’s bath , produced cheaply and affordable. These are now becoming rarer as the proverbial rocking horse p**p. You see, as the family become more financial , they were removed and replaced with the flash cast iron vitreous enameled beauties.
They were either dropped off to the tip or converted into the water or feed trough.
The zinc or gal would then just dissolve over the years and all that would remain would be the cast iron feet.
These baths were that light they needed a screw in the feet to the floor to stop them tipping over when one exited the bath.
I’m reminded of a funny story of an old guy telling me these baths were bum biters, confused I asked him to explain. Apparently during his youth when he was bathing his mum asked him to get out so the next lot of the tribe could bath( no doubt in that milky cloudy water) . Around the side is a lip that overlaps and is soldered into position. The solder had long broke away, and if you sat on the lip, the overlapping section would trap part of the bum cheek and pinch, usually drawing blood and a howl….
