The agriculture sector is undergoing a rapid transformation as it faces mounting challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, and a growing global population. Agribusinesses that embrace diversity and inclusion as part of broader Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives can not only attract customers, investors, and partners, but enhance innovation, build resilience and attract top talent.
Traditionally, agriculture has been seen as a male-dominated industry with limited diversity in leadership roles. However, the modern agribusiness sector is championing diversity in all its forms, recognising its role as a strategic advantage, not just a moral imperative.
By championing diversity and inclusion, agribusinesses can not just attract top talent, they are more likely to retain them. This is particularly evident in the younger generation who are seeking to work for companies that align with their values and make a positive impact on the world.

Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) considerations have taken centre stage for businesses worldwide and Australian agribusinesses are increasingly recognising ESG as an opportunity.
With ESG standards becoming increasingly important to all stakeholders, agribusinesses are also recognising the importance of getting it right in order to attract and secure top talent.
A recent Deloitte survey found that protecting the environment remains a top priority for Gen Zs and millennials and they are willing to turn down jobs and assignments which don’t align with their values.
The study also reveals that societal and environmental impact, along with a diverse and inclusive culture, continue to be critical issues in terms of retention, and those that are satisfied that their employer creates this environment are more likely to want to stay in a role for more than five years.
