Following on from this month’s blog article, brisk walking (at more than 4km/hour) helps boost your metabolism more than long, slow walking, particularly if you are at risk of diabetes.

Is sitting really the new smoking?
- despite the media hype, prolonged sitting is not even close to being as bad as smoking
- it does increase your risk of cardio vascular disease, death (aka all-cause mortality) & all-cause cancer
- however, it does increase your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes slightly more than heavy smoking does
- getting up and walking for 5 minutes, every 30 minutes is effective in minimising this risk as it has been shown to decrease blood pressure and decrease blood sugar spikes after eating a large meal (and even more so than an hour walk once per day)
- a Bruegger’s posture (click on the article link for an explanation) can help ease neck and back pain often associated with prolonged sitting

- Consistency is more important than the type of reps & sets that you do - all reps & sets combination will help you grow stronger &
- you get stronger quicker training in the 3 rep max to 5 rep max range (ie training with a weight that you could lift with correct form 3-5 times)

While obviously not my first-line treatment of choice, this is a great article written in plain english on the difference between Paracetamol and Ibuprofen (e.g. Panadol vs Neurofen, etc.).
Paracetamol versus ibuprofen – which works best and when? Because it reduces inflammation, ibuprofen is better for osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis, period pain, some types of headache and after an operation. Paracetamol is better for pain with fever.
