๐๏ธ๐๏ธ Allied Health friends at camp - Did you know each Spectrum Adventures camp gives you the opportunity to attend neuroaffirming Allied Health sessions and activities curated for our families and children?
๐๏ธ๐๏ธ Highlight on our friend Kate - Kate is an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD), with a neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed approach to providing nutrition support and a passion working with neurodivergent young people with eating challenges. This year's camp saw her deliver parent sessions around eating differences in Autistic young people covering topics such as:
๐ Why your neurodivergent young person is more likely to have feeding differences
๐ Common nutrition related challenges and solutions for these
๐ ARFID
๐ Using supplements to meet nutritional gaps
๐ Responsive feeding frameworks
๐ A family approach to making changes
๐๏ธ๐๏ธ Parents are able to attend our Allied Health sessions while their children connect over games and activities being run alongside in our sensory space, offering a unique opportunity for questions to be raised and build everyone's knowledge on these important topics and learnings.
๐๏ธ๐๏ธ At Spectrum Adventures camp, we create a safe and inviting space to build capacity through knowledge sharing with families, allied health professionals, and experienced support workers and the power of collective learning ๐ค We are passionate about expanding our network and working together to create lasting impact! ๐ฏ

๐๐๐ We'd like to take a moment to talk about the importance of finding your village, your community that shares your path.
Sometimes as parents of autistic children, we are told to find the things to fill our cup, to soak in the tub, to remember a mantra or two and find our inner peace in simple steps of self care...none of which connect us to others, or give us the opportunity to hear what someone else has done before, to share a laugh, a smile, or allow us to feel deeply alongside someone else who is looking for the energy to get back up and do the things.
๐๐๐ All the candles and bathbombs in the world do not take the place of connection. Of finding someone who knows your path, and sees you. That shared beverage, it can be caffeinated or not, it can be online, or in person.
For newly diagnosed families, finding community, and hearing other's stories can be incredibly insightful. We are thrust into the world of medical diagnosis, which is not strengths based at all, we are told of all the negatives....when our community can shine the light ahead.
๐๐๐ Social media, in fact facebook, offers us brilliant opportunities to connect to our village - to find groups that are local (or not) who can lighten your days with their latest discoveries, delights, and sometimes the fails that come with this path. My days are always lighter for the moments I find alongside my community in these here paths.
If you don't have a local group of autistic families to connect to, start your own! It all starts with one, and a genuine desire to find others and share.
๐๐๐ We'd love to hear the great groups and communities you've found alongside your family's journey.
๐๏ธ๐๏ธ Allied Health friends at camp - Did you know each Spectrum Adventures camp gives you the opportunity to attend neuroaffirming Allied Health sessions and activities curated for our families and children?
๐๏ธ๐๏ธ Highlight on our friend Sarah - Sarah is a clinical psychologist who has created a resource development space called Neurokin & Co and this year's camp saw her facilitate interactive sessions with children and parents working across a range of modalities, expression and movement
๐๐ With a vision to create collaborative industry partnerships, Sarah has designed Neurokin & Co as a hub of connection and design thinking to support resource creation for neurodivergence, at every stage of life. Sarah's mission is to continue co-creating empowering, engaging, and neurodiversity- affirming spaces for young people and their families.l.๐๐
๐๐๐ Spectrum Adventures camps have been a wonderful opportunity for Sarah to deliver parent information sessions around values, future career paths for their autistic young people and more. Her sessions are wonderfully informative and transformative!

๐๏ธ MEMORIES FROM CAMP ๐ฌ
"I think my favourite camp memory was going down the big sand hill by myself. I went really, really fast."
Francesca, Age 10
At Spectrum Adventures Camps, our children travelled by private bus, climbed the famous Tangalooma sand dunes together and for those that felt brave enough, zoomed down the sand dunes on a toboggan.
We understand that new experiences can be challenging for our Autistic/ADHD kids and we supported them by;
โ๏ธ Giving each child the autonomy to participate in activities of choice.
โ๏ธ Providing a range of fun activities in a natural environment to help children meet and form connections.
โ๏ธ Hiring a private bus to give us the chance to meet other families along the way. Kids connected and swapped seats on the return journey to be with their new friends.
โ๏ธ Family participation to help support children to try new things.
โ๏ธ Including a team of neuro-affirming folk to help guide and support families on
new adventures.
When our children are given the opportunity and support, look what's possible!!!
Join us on our next adventure at Tangalooma Island in 2025.

๐๐๐ Sharing some more about Spectrum Adventures camps and what makes us unique in our delivery of supports for our autistic community.
๐ We've been running camps in South-East Qld since 2021 & most of us bring lived neurodivergent experience to our camp delivery.
๐ We offer an amazing sensory space co-designed with our resident Occupational Therapist with a range of sensory resources to help regulate and explore movement and address autistic needs. The space is available all weekend for our camp attendees to enjoy and explore.
๐ We communicate often - we share regular updates in the lead up to camp for our families including our camp program full of visuals to help autistic needs to prepare for camp and become familiar with the events ahead.
๐ Each camp has flexibility and low-demand activities on offer, giving a break from the schedule when needed to explore interests at an alternative pace.
๐ We are passionate about delivering strengths-based neuroaffirming supports, and continue our learning. We celebrate the wins when one of our camp attendees completes an activity or experience for the first time, and we love bringing our village together.
๐ there's a reason why all of our camp families come back! we would LOVE to meet your family at camp too!

๐๐๐ Sensory needs are no trouble at camp with a custom space to meet everyone's needs open all weekend!
๐ We're thrilled to hear that parents are seeing the benefits of their children utilizing resources from camp in their daily routines! ๐
๐ Our custom Calming room, co-designed with our OT, offers a sensory haven for our camp attendees! allowing them the chance to immerse themselves in a space space for sensory exploration and comfort! ๐
๐ Giving campers the chance to explore resources at Spectrum Adventures is not only fun, but also incredibly beneficial for their sensory development. ๐ง ๐
Spectrum Adventures delivers neuro-affirming supports to our Autistic community in south east Qld, and we love bringing resources to our community to try and learn.
โจ Parents love seeing their children try out new resources at camp and then confidently use them in their everyday lives. ๐ช

๐งฑ We thought we'd share some thoughts on how you can use building bricks to build connection amongst your Neurodivergent community.
๐งฑ Building Bricks are amazing at sparking the imagination, we've seen so many different themes at camp after camp, some people like to be really methodical around what they are building - replicating constructions they may have done before. Others take a free-form approach and are less structured in what they do.
What we can tell you, is that there is an amazing energy when we see the children at camp drawn to the pile of building bricks....some will visit just once during camp, for others it offers a quiet refuge and place for stillness and concentration, for beautiful hyperfocus to engage. And space is made for other to join in...to swap pieces, what looks like simple play to the untrained eye is a haven for our Autistics to connect.
๐งฑ Building blocks builds the foundation for connection. For friendships and community to develop naturally at its own pace while imaginations run wild with possibilities.
๐งฑ There is complete value in sourcing as many building bricks as you can, and providing space for your children to connect to build the world of their dreams - this approach can be used in small play groups, in schools or noisy spaces that need to offer an opportunity for people to explore quiet, unstructured play together.
Witness the transformative impact of our camps! ๐โจ
We pride ourselves on delivering safe and empowering environments for autistic children and teens to shine. With tailored activities and allied health sessions, we cultivate connections and friendships that last a lifetime.
Don't miss out on the opportunity to join us in 2025 and be a part of this incredible experience! ๐๏ธ๐
