This beautiful client came in for a volumising treatment. Under our lighting, you can see a significant Tyndall effect from previous filler.

We performed ultrasound and there was beautifully placed product in the mid to upper layers of the skin.
The client knew what product had been used in this region and this is what caused the Tyndall effect.

A high G prime product was used which should be used deep when injecting. Preferably on periosteum and under the SMAS and fat pads.

What did we do: NOTHING!!!!

The Tyndall effect was only noted under our lighting.
The client wasn’t concerned, hadn’t noticed it previously and wears makeup daily.
Our client could not afford to have it dissolved and then pay to have it retreated.

Dissolving product is NOT a way to make money and dare I say it, clinics are demanding that product is dissolved prior to doing any of their work on clients coming in.

Dissolving product has risks. There are definite instances where dissolving is necessary such as vascular occlusions, nodules, the presence of biofilm, poor injecting and placement. However, in the case of this client, the injecting was beautiful, just the wrong choice of filler.

It’s Nurse Practitioner Day!!

So a big shout out to our NP Bek. She leads our clinic and pushes the whole team (dogs included) to be the best practitioners we can be.

She is passionate about the role of the nurse practitioner and treats our clients with respect, empathy and a very high standard of care.

After a tough couple of years, she has also branched in to the podcasting arena promoting tenderness for nurses and health care practitioners.

In November, Bek fractured her lower back and has done her best to see all her clients. A big thank you to all our beautiful clients who have been flexible with appointments.

So thank you to all NP’s. The most under rated health care providers but who continue to work diligently for their patients, the health care system and who support each other through thick and thin.

Self Care with Plastic Surgeon,Dr Ayad Harb

Today on Tenderness for Nurses, we chat with Dr Harb, a renown plastic surgeon from the UK.

Dr Harb has developed a procedure for treating noses without surgery, using fillers. This procedure is called a Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty. Treating noses with fillers is one the most high risk procedures in the non-surgical space, and numerous cases of blindness and tissue necrosis have been caused from this procedure. Dr Harb’s technique is all about patient safety and if following his technique correctly, the safety profile is high.

At a recent conference in Philadelphia, where Bek went to hear Dr Harb (and others) speak, Bek and Dr Harb sat down and chatted about what Dr Harb does for self care.

Although mindful self care is new to Dr Harb, they discuss what he does, how he realised he needed to care and show tenderness to himself, and some of the practices he has put in to place.

This chat emphasises the need for everyone to care for themselves, regardless of whether you are a CEO, Plastic Surgeon, Nurse or student. We all need show a little tenderness to ourselves.

For those of you that have been messaging about what therapy dogs do and can you get more information, I thought I’d share a photo of Samuel Ford working the QUT Campus. Sam was born to be a therapy dog! He adores humans, gives the best cuddles and is at his best when we put his Therapy Dog jacket on he gets to strut his stuff.

Lola, on the other hand, prefers one on one. She can pick out a stressed or anxious person and goes straight to them.

She has done this time and again in the clinic. When we recently had to deal with an emergency in the clinic, lola didn’t leave that patients lap. Although culturally, our patient wasn’t in to dogs, she consented and found Lola to be calming and helpful.

Their standard of training is amazing. It’s in person and hands on.

We talk about her life. What it has been like to live with Cystic Fibrosis, have a double lung transplant at the age of 21, and be diagnosed with a rare gynaecological disorder at the age of 30.

Carly is the definition of determined. She has been determined to live, and to live life to its fullest.

We chat about hospital life, poo, death and ghosts! All the good stuff. 🤣

We are currently trialing a combination treatment for scar improvement.

We used direct needling, and skin needling combined with PRP and yesterday, added another element directly in to the scar.

The scar has improved dramatically, however, we are unbelievably impressed with the reduction of redness, pigmentation and improvement of skin tone and texture across the whole décolletage.

We will keep you updated on the progress of this treatment, but thought we would share our journey with you.

I certainly didn’t expect the reaction I got to yesterdays post!

I put together a few modalities we use to treat fine lines, and tighten the skin. Please remember, the only treatment that is going to give a big lift and tighten really lax skin is a face lift by a plastic surgeon.

The number 1 most important factor in treating fine lines and skin laxity is prevention! Make sure you use sunscreen every day. Even if working in front of a computer. Start caring for your skin early. Teach this to your kids. Washing and moisturising, using sunscreen and wearing a hat. These are imperative to good skin health and you will reap the benefits long term.

We tell our clients this is a marathon, not a sprint.

Good diet, exercise and limiting alcohol all prevent ageing.

And finally, ageing is a privilege some don’t get. This is a personal choice whether you choose to treat lines or not. You want to look great for your age. That is why treating your skin is so important, more so then using anti-wrinkle or fillers.

We have made the decision to remove PDO Threads from our list of services at Perfectly Smooth.

After reviewing and chatting with our clients. We’ve taken their feedback onboard, and decided to stop offering this procedure.

We are by no means suggesting this is a bad treatment, and some liked their results, HOWEVER, assessment of treatments and their outcomes is always important as a practitioner, and we have found it no longer suits our clients needs when we offer other modalities that achieve better, lasting results, with less downtime, less bruising, is more cost affective and less risk of complications.

If you love this treatment, we can refer you to some awesome colleagues who perform this procedure.
