This week is Birth Trauma Awareness Week.
Birth trauma can be physical and psychological. Psychological trauma can be greatly reduced when you have a relationship with your dedicated midwifery team and family support practitioner before, during and after birth.
Physical trauma can be managed by excellent follow-up care.
Under BiOC’s model of care, mums are less likely to experience birth trauma and have a positive birthing experience.
If you have any concerns, contact your family support practitioner.
We acknowledge the impact and the stories of people who have experienced birth trauma.
Do you have a bub 7 months and under?
The RSV immunisation is now available at BiOC. There are lots of bugs going around this winter. Be sure that your bub is protected from RSV with the immunisation.

Thank you, You Mob, for coming together to have some fun in community.
Jul-Eye is the month to look at your eye health.
Have you noticed your vision changing during pregnancy?
Your vision may become slightly impaired during pregnancy due to the changes in hormone levels. Mums-to-be may also experience dry eyes, blurred or changed vision.
Most mums find that their vision returns to normal soon after the birth of their bub.
Your family support practitioner can support you to see an optometrist for an eye check if you do experience changes in your vision during pregnancy – just in case it is something other than hormonal changes.
It’s not too late to vaccinate!
The school holidays are upon us – now is the time to book in for your jarjum to get a flu shot.

Our clinics have incentives for everyone who gets a flu shot, including a Deadly Choices bouncy ball, a hat or a bag. Your jarjum can choose which one they’d like!

On National Sorry Day, we pay respect to the stolen generations, the generations of our people whose stories and lives were impacted by the actions of government.
We acknowledge their stories and stand with them by working diligently to influence systems and to create better futures for our people.
Does the flu shot work? Yes!
It takes two weeks for the flu shot to work. Sometimes people get the flu before the vaccine is fully effective, that’s why it’s important to get the flu shot as soon as you can. We recommend April or May, well before the winter flu season.
There are also different flu viruses and not all of them are in the vaccine, which is why some people get the flu, despite being vaccinated. The flu shot improves your chances of being protected from the flu, and if you do get it, helps stop you from getting super crook.
