They are doing alone what the COP28 ‘loss and damage’ fund promises for the most affected but least responsible for climate change. Labor 'giant' Bill Hayden remembered at state funeral
Former Labor Party leader Bill Hayden was the politician who put the "drover's dog" firmly in Australia's political vernacular, one of his many (but likely unintended) achievements. Also a former governor-general, he was remembered as 'profoundly decent man' who transformed the ALP when he was farewelled at a state funeral in Queensland on Friday. Inquest disappoints family of Indian bus driver killed in fire bombing
The family of Indian bus driver Manmeet Sharma are disappointed and frustrated a Queensland coronial inquest did not hold anyone accountable for his fire bombing death in Brisbane in 2016. In delivering his findings on Friday on the 7th annniversary, coroner Terry Ryan acknowledged the perpetrator should not have been released from mental health care, but said no-one could have foreseen that he would kill. At the Melanesian Spearhead Group meeting in Vanuatu this week West Papuans are again seeking full membership status. For context, this report from MSG 2015 when West Papua’s ULMWP membership bid resulted in only observer status (its highest level of diplomatic recognition) but Indonesia was upgraded to associate member.
