I couldn’t resist sharing another shot of Comet A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS that I captured earlier this morning from Beachmere. Does it not dazzle with its bright tail and vivid colour against the pre-dawn sky?!!! It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience to see this comet!

Don't worry, there’s still time to catch a glimpse. Look towards the eastern horizon just before sunrise. It will move closer and closer towards the Sun, and by mid-October it will become an evening comet, visible in the west after sunset.

This is a single exposure at - ISO2000, 8 secs at f2.8 and 42mm.

This comet is shaping up to be the best one this year. Here's how to spot it Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) is bright enough to be seen in the early morning sky with just your eyes. But only if you know when and where to look.

Saturn occultiation by the Moon tonight, Tues 17th Sep 2024. Saturn will start to emerge at approximately 6:51pm in Brisbane (according to Stellarium).

Tonight is International Observe the Moon night. You are welcome to go along and view the Moon and Saturn through various telescopes.

Brisbane Astronomical Society will have telescopes at Witton Barracks (adjacent to Indooroopilly Railway Station) today, Saturday August 10th, from around 5:30pm to about 8:00pm. A chance to see the Moon, star clusters, nebulae and more through some large telescopes. Bring the kids. It'll be out of this world.

Brisbane Astronomical Society will have telescopes at Witton Barracks (adjacent to Indooroopilly Railway Station) today, Saturday August 10th, from around 5:30pm to about 8:00pm.
