🤮 ‘Vomit Girl’ is coming to the Asia Pacific Triennial!
Here’s an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Tasmanian-born artist Mai Nguyễn-Long with her latest body of work, ‘The Vomit Girl Project’ (2024). Raised in Papua New Guinea and the Philippines, Nguyễn-Long felt a conflicted sense of identity and belonging and channels her complex identity into whimsical clay sculptures that blend cultural exploration with fantasy.
Her whimsical creations – featuring characters like elephant fairies, toads, warrior cats, dancing birds, buffalo riders, mudskippers and screaming chickens – delve into themes of cultural mistranslation and erasure through a unique, folkloric lens.
We can’t wait to reveal all when the Asia Pacific Triennial opens on Sat 30 Nov, free entry.
