✨ INTRODUCING ✨ Nano7, the newest roaster available exclusively in the U.S. and Mexico through Showroom.

Designed for both professionals and home roasters, the Kaffelogic Nano 7 is a 120v revision of Kaffelogic’s small-batch electric fluid bed roaster, which was first released in New Zealand and Australia in 2019 and Europe in 2020.

The Kaffelogic roaster, which is capable of roasting 120g out of the box and up to 150 - 200g with a “boost” kit, has quickly become a popular choice for coffee professionals as a sample roaster, and has made appearances at the World Barista Championships, such as in 's successful title bid for the Brewers Cup Championship and 's 5th Place achievement at WBC in Milan in 2021. Most recently, perfected his roasts on a Kaffelogic when he took the 2023 title as World Brewers Cup Champion.

Until we roasted with the Kaffelogic—after picking one up through its wildly successful launch on Indiegogo—we didn't know of a roaster at a lower price point than the Arc S that could hold up to the rigors of a lab setting and also deliver roasts of repeatable and excellent quality.

We're excited to help you get great coffee—anywhere you can find a 110v outlet—and will be offering free shipping on Kaffelogic units to customers in both the U.S. and Mexico.

We’ve been working with the group called “Red 5 de Diciembre” since 2018 (“red” = “network” en español). Red 5 is an informal collective—the largest in La Cañada, representing 1,300 indigenous smallholders—formed within the larger Coro cooperative on December 5th, 2014 after roya devastated crops in the region, collapsing their market. Over the course of our work with Coro and Red 5, we identified Obemar (one of the agronomists) as someone of notable talent—talent which we can taste in coffees coming from the the communities (“barrios,” or neighborhoods) where he works in Eloxochitlán.

One of the greatest challenges of working in Mexico is the aggregation of coffee; most of the country’s coffee is grown by smallholders, the majority of whom are Indigenous and almost all of whom live in remote or difficult-to-access places along Mexico’s mountain-terraced countryside. In Eloxochitlán, for example, approximately 96% of the inhabitants of the municipality speak the indigenous Tecóatl Mazatec. Access to communities—both physically and culturally—is compounded the challenge of volume. Smallholders grow on small plots with low-yielding traditional varieties of old rootstock with minimal pruning or management. Coffee farms in Mexico look, in many ways, closer to rainforest than plantations—the upside being that this sort of traditional polyculture tends to result in exceptional quality potential.

Coro agronomists like Obemar enable the work we do on the ground in Mexico. Through Obemar we have access to these indigenous farming communities and are able to open pathways into the specialty market and its higher prices, but a lack of cupping training or infrastructure as well as a lack of incentives for growers has stood in the way of improving qualities and quantities.

This year, we worked to address these points of friction through two mechanisms. First, we connected Coro to a local bank to finance the purchasing of cherry. This allowed us to pay farmers immediately (and at a premium), as opposed to the typical arrangement of payment after the sale of the coffee at export. That was a big step. Fast payment and a second premium after sale was the incentive needed to 1) collect more cherry, and 2) get the cooperative to engage with our request for lot separation.
The second intervention we took was to have Israel + Joz (the duo running the Good Coffee Program as a part of their work scope for Crop to Cup) to visit with Coro, establish a lab, and calibrate with the two new cuppers that Coro hired for Red 5. Having Joz’ cupping expertise allowed us to select and purchase lots quickly—and her training closed the learning loop with Coro, providing rapid, direct and calibrated feedback to farmers.

Two of the resulting separations—from barrios Buenavista and Cebollín, both in Eloxochitlán—stood out, and we’ve brought them into Showroom as a showcase for the work we’ve done in Mexico this year. Both of these certified organic coffees are are sweet and tactile, with notes of stonefruit or melon at lighter roasts with a backdrop of milk chocolate that develops into creamy dark chocolate with more development.

MRS. GEMEDECH FULASA, Yirgacheffe Idedo, SNNPR, Ethiopia 🇪🇹

Last year, we imported our first coffee from a woman-owned single farm in Ethiopia from Mrs. Gemedech Fulasa—whose farm in the Idedo region of Yirgacheffe sits at an elevation of 2050 meters.

While land inheritance in the Gedeo culture typically goes to male children, Mrs. Gemedech is an only child; when her father passed away in 2011, she inherited his 4.5 hectare coffee farm and now shines as one of the few woman coffee farmers—and one of the farmers producing the highest quality—in Yirgacheffe.

A mix of Wolisho, Dega and Kurume landraces grow in a regenerative agroforestry at Mrs. Gemedech’s farm under the canopy of fruit and food staples. Fallen leaves and coffee pulp hauled from local mills are the main source of compost. Enset trees (false Banana) across the farm collect water from the rainy season inside their trunks and release it to the ground during the dry season. This helps the soils retain moisture all year round. According to Mrs. Gemedech, she does not use inorganic fertilizers or pesticides, and, since she processes her harvest using the natural/sundried process, her environmental waste and impact are minimal.

The liberalization of the Ethiopian coffee industry in 2018 enabled this relationship—which is a model for the region. By exporting directly through her own export license, Mrs. Gemedech is able to receive 88% of the FOB export price, resulting in substantially increased income compared to the conventional model of selling cherry to ECX or private washing stations.

In the cup ☕️: Malbec, lavender, grape, dark plum, dried blackberry, francencense. 87.5

Coffee has been one of the big—and specific—requests coming from the front lines in Ukraine. We invite home roasters and commercial roasters to join the effort by sending us your roasted coffee that we will consolidate and ship to Ukraine in October.

We work with Ukraine Recovery, who distributes food and medical provisions to defense forces in Ukraine. UR brings both personal connections and logistical expertise through their NYC and Ukraine-based restaurant supply companies.

If you'd like to contribute, we're looking for whole bean and/or ground coffee (medium or dark roasts preferred) of any package size (retail bags or wholesale 5lb bags or re-used burlap sacks lined with a food-grade liner). Sending both whole bean and ground options will allow UR to provide coffee to both larger commissaires with grinders and smaller units making coffee in the field.

We can accept any size donation. We'll consolidate and palletize contributions at Crop to Cup and Showroom Coffee’s warehouse in Brooklyn and deliver them to .

We ask that your contributions reach us by Friday October 21st. Please ship your roasted coffee to:

Congratulations to Larry Duran of Ketch Coffee Roasters for winning 1st Place in our April Roast-Along. Larry's roasted batch earned the highest point total across four categories: Flavor, Acidity/Fruit, Body & Would you drink it again?

Curious how a Roast-Along works? Join us for the next one! Here's what to expect:

We'll announce a Roast-Along and invited roasters to purchase a specific green coffee (this time is was Kinini Village AA from Rwanda). From there, roasters have a set amount of time to dial in the roast to their best representation of the coffee. Coffees are then submitted to the quality lab during a specified window. Our in house QC team will then brew, tastes and evaluate them blindly. Scores are tallied and a winner is declared! Finally, we share feedback with all participating roasters. It's a great way to interact with a QC lab and a coffee you might not be familiar with!

Be on the look out for the next Roast-Along where we'll feature another exceptional coffee. In the meantime, let's give Larry a round of applause! 👏👏👏
