The 2024 Country Skills Days, will be held on Saturday 20th July and Sunday 21st July at 10 regional academies across Victoria, the 2024 Under-12 Country Skills Days are part of a development program for players of all abilities and standards from all associations located in regional Victoria.

The team at Mildura Basketball would like to give a shout out to the crew that assisted with the delivery of the U14 JCC earlier this month, it was a massive undertaking and couldn’t have been done without you, so thank you!

We extend our thanks to Mildura Rural City Council for the support of our event, and a huge thank you to Mildura Sporting Precinct and Chaffey Secondary College that, along with the Ausloans Mildura Hothouse gave us the capacity to bring this event to Mildura.

What a wonderful few days we have had in Mildura for Basketball Victoria’s Junior Country Championships for U14 Boys and Girls! It was the first time we’ve been able to bring this event to Mildura.

88 teams from across Victoria attended. It meant that we had well over 5,000 attendees, including players, coaches, their families, our staff and technical officials visiting the Mildura Rural City Council region utilizing the beautiful new Mildura Sporting Precinct, the famous ‘Hothouse’ and Chaffey Secondary College for training and games. Planned with school holidays, it was great to hear of many families staying on to enjoy a few days holiday in the region.

Thank you to the fabulous volunteers from Mildura Basketball Association, who went above and beyond. The team from the Sporting Precinct were exceptional and a thank you to the Council for supporting our endeavour to bring this event to Mildura.

On tournament eve it was exciting to see the main strip of restaurants with a wide range of colours and uniforms, let alone over the three competition days.

From Phillip Island to Wodonga, Swan Hill to Portland - they came from wide and far in the interests of kids playing for the Victoria Country Championships Divisions 1 through to 6.

Congratulations to our crew for pulling it together - Sarah Szczykulski and Jordan Royal, and well done to Matt Royal for the vision in getting this event to Mildura with Mahaela Jackson.

⭐️Our U12 Girls Junior Country Champs campaign came to an end at the Div 3 Quarter Finals this morning, going down to Pakenham 41-23. 5 wins and only 2 losses for the weekend is a great achievement. Congratulations to all the girls and big thanks to Ben Garraway for coaching and Fiona Pike in her team manager role!⭐️

🏀What a big Day 3 for our U12 boys, winning their Div 4 QF by 6 points over Macedon this morning to progress to the SF at 1pm! In a hard fought Semi, they missed out on a GF appearance by only 2 points against Phillip Island, bringing their JCC campaign to an end.

🏀Congratulations to all players and big thanks to Travis Coombes for coaching and Kelly Scherger in her team manager role!

🏀Our 14/1 Girls began Day 3 of the Junior Country Champs with a big win over Myrtleford 54-19 in the Division 4 QFs! Unfortunately their JCC campaign came to an end at the Semi Finals, going down in a close one to Portland 21-14!

🏀Our 14/2 Girls ended their JCC campaign on a high, winning the Division 5 Classification Final 51-18 against Kyneton!

🏀Congratulations to ALL players, we are so proud of your efforts! Big thanks also to Rob Poole (14G1), Tracey Sherlock and Jamie Madigan (14G2) for coaching and Jess Crump and Tyanne Blomeley as team managers!

⭐️A special shout-out to all the volunteers who helped across the 3 days to make this such a successful event in our home town! Your time and effort did not go unnoticed! 🥈Top 2 of the best U14 Boys teams in Country Victoria!🥈

What an amazing achievement for our Garraway Developments Under 14 Division 1 Heat Boys at the pinnacle Junior Country Championships event held in Mildura over the weekend. We couldn’t be prouder! Unfortunately didn’t get the fairytale ending in the Grand Final but boy did they give it a good crack!

These talented youngsters won 8 games over 3 days, only going down in the last by 6 points to Maffra, who they had beaten by 7 points in the earlier rounds. Huge credit to coach Jason Spratt and team manager Garth Russell for bringing the best out of these lads across the entire season.
