Busselton Trotting Club
Busselton Trotting Club is the home of Harness Racing and Entertainment for five meetings a year from Churchill Park, Busselton!
Our season has finished :( but we're already in preparation for the next one - there's no rest for the wicked! 💪
We'd love to hear your feedback on what you loved and what you'd love to see next time. We're doing all we can to create the best night out for people of all ages, from young tackers to the young at heart.
Add your thoughts below or PM the page.
This Busselton Trotting Club Horse Of The Year print is on it's way to the South West stables of Michael Callegari after "The Beast Of Busselton" was able to take out the season award with four wins and a second and over $15,000 in stake money for the five meetings.
We donated this large print as part of the trophy for the award, and we hope Mick has a prime spot to hang it up!
We'd like to thank the for having us help them in the marketing and promotion of the season, as well as providing the on-course photography.
With great crowds, bumper turnover and plenty of interest in the five meetings, we can't wait to see what happens next year at Churchill Park!

Last one for the season. 5 minutes with Hayden Charles.
1) What do you love most about Busselton trots? The standing starts, tight track and the competitiveness which makes the racing a very tactical affair. I also love interacting with the crowd. I can’t forget about the donuts and the lovely office staff.
2) Best memory of your drives at Busselton? Winning at my first ever drive at the Busselton track on Elle Cavalla NZ for trainer Garry Scott as the rank outsider.
3) Tips for those trying to get into the industry? Try build connections and relationships with owners and trainers so you aren’t just a number. Be consistent, keep working hard and the opportunities and success will come.
4) Favourite horses to drive? Am I Tough and Lookslikelightning
5) Favourite tracks to drive at? Busselton and Albany Harness Racing Club Inc.
6) Hopes for the future? For my family and I to continue to be happy and healthy and to continue driving winners. I also hope that the industry can continue to support grass roots pacing as without it we have nothing. With no Auskick it’s a lot harder to get future AFL stars.
7) Favourite food? Chicken parmigiana
8) Favourite drink? Corona
9) Favourite travel destination? Internationally: South America. Locally: Busselton
10) Tips for tonight? Axle Rocks, Montego, I’m the Best and Candillo

What hopes does my trainer have for my future? To win a cup race
Who's my best friend? My brother “Class n Smart”
What are my quirks? I don’t like being caught
How'd I come into my trainer's care? I didn’t want to be caught or pace and she sorted me out
Who/what is my nemesis? My trainer (she always wins)
How many horses does my trainer have in the stable? 10
How will I go in The Cup? Not my ideal distance but I love standing starts, hopefully I get a nice run along the rail and can sneak into the money.

What a balmy night tonight
Come on down for all the racing action.
Tonight started with a big bump with the pony trots where the pony’s were so fired up there was some serious action.
Good luck Punters Club

"I'll be tuned into Matt for interviews in parade ring for last minute updates"
It’s finally here, the Busselton Cup of 2024 presented by B.F.S.!
We have seven events on the program and by the end of the night we’ll have crowned the horse, driver, and trainer of the year, and also the winner of the hotly contested Esplanade Sweetheart Series.
Scotty has scoured the form, here’s his selections…
RACE 1 - WORK CLOBBER - THE WORKWEAR SPECIALISTS SS PACE - 2400m
SCOTTY SELECTS: 5 - 6 - 1 - 3
I can’t see Velvet Shadow leaving Churchill Park without a win here. 30m handicap is the question mark with tricky Trent Wheeler to pass in the last lap.
RACE 2 - CALLOWS OFFICE CHOICE SS PACE - 2400m
SCOTTY SELECTS: 1 - 6 - 5 - 9
Axle Rocks is having a fine time of it at Churchill Park and should record a victory here. Interest in the minors comes the way of Hope who finished soundly last time out.
RACE 3 - ESPLANADE SWEETHEART SERIES SS PACE - 2030m
SCOTTY SELECTS: 2 - 8 - 7 - 4
Montego wasn’t a happy chappy last start and forget he ever made the trip down. Will be prominent and should be able to hold off the back marker who is FLYING! 2 & 8 the Exacta play.
RACE 4 - LIBBY METTAM MLA (DIV.2) SS PACE - 2030m
SCOTTY SELECTS: 1 - 7 - 6 - 3
This is a great race. Plenty of hopes mean you’ll get a price for the one you like. I’ve gone with the horse most likely to lead, Briggs On Bond.
Impressive last two efforts and looks to handle the track well.
RACE 5 - ROBERT HAYWARD PROUD PACING CUP (DIV.1) SS PACE - 2030m
SCOTTY SELECTS: 1 - 5 - 4 - 6
A great tribute to a great man this event.
Peter Tilbrook is one of the best standing-start drivers in the state and will punch Lukes Mistake out for as long as he can and potentially hold off the favourite late.
RACE 6 - 2024 B.F.S.BUSSELTON CUP SS PACE - 2680m
SCOTTY SELECTS: 3 - 7 - 1 - 2
1 - RISING SPIRIT: Three wins in a line for this 4yo son of Betting Line who is having his fourth start at the track. #1 a huge bonus here if Shane Young can get out of his Standing Start funk. Will get an ecumenical run and be strong late.
2 - MIKIPELO: One win this season came when leading and should be afforded the same luxury here. Pressure aplenty tonight could be his undoing.
3 - MINOR CATASTROPHE: A smashing victory off 50m last time out from a safe beginning and starts off the front line here up in class. Probably has to do it from the breeze but is tough.
4 - OBSERVATION: Was well found by the Sparkler last week and line up here at big odds with ODS next to his name. Began very well last start from the same position and will give the insiders something to think about around the first bend.
5 - ISAIDBOO: Can’t have him here.
6 - HES ROYAL BLUE: Imagine the scenes if Ash Markham could salute here. Sentimental favourite. Good luck Kym and co.
7 - IM THE BEST: I cannot believe I’m tipping against the Beast here. His racing manners have seen him fire up a little too much for me to be piling into the even money over 2680m with a horse like Minor Catastrophe in the breeze. R E S P E C T
8 - MEGA MACH: Should have a handy helmet to follow when the time comes and can run into the minors if the leaders go breakneck speed early.
RACE 7 - CHAFF CITY SS PACE - 2030m
SCOTTY SELECTS: 1 - 8 - 4 - 2
Abbee Bee for me! Alfa Prince did all the work last time out off 40m but never looked the winner behind Queen Of Stars. Group One TC ‘Global’ Wheeler (The right an honourable King of Collie) jumps on and hopefully can do the followers good in the final race of the season from Churchill Park.
. Can’t wait!

TABtouch have him installed him a $2.25 favourite, but regional stars Rising Spirit, Minor Catastrophe and Mikipelo will all be putting the pedal to the metal off the front line to see if they can capture the cup.
