Did two jobs on Friday. The grass was so thick and overgrown on both jobs it would have taken me days to get it done with standard equipment.

This is a Hustler Super S 36. It’s an industrial grade mower.

Cutting deck is 36 inches wide so the machine can fit through standard side gates and get down the side of most houses. It is a beast with a Kawasaki V Twin engine belting out 19 horsepower. It’ll handle the toughest overgrown jobs and can get into very tight places.

Two overgrown jobs today and I’m very pleased I bought it. A heavy duty push mower would have taken at least 4 full days of very hard work. This machine did it all with ease in 4 hours!

Excellent for fire breaks and can handle any grass and woody weeds. On the lowest setting it’ll pretty much leave bare earth and seriously reduce the fuel load and fire hazard.

Trimmed a few trees for a client at the front and rear of their property. Lucky it’s green waste day next week. Rapidly learning there is no such thing as a ‘quick trim’! Battery powered Stihl chainsaw works a treat.

I don’t normally work on reticulation systems, unless I break it - then of course I’ll fix it at my expense.
I didn’t break this one (thank goodness)
but when it’s a regular client and a total fire ban day I appreciate the work. I also appreciate the deep sand, makes for very easy digging. Speaking of hot weather I also appreciate being semi retired as this allows be to work at my own pace. I charge for ‘job time’ not the time I take. As I get older hot weather knocks me around more so I’ll take plenty of breaks in the shade.. Throw in a trip to the local hardware store for fittings, general store for a sausage roll and iced coffee, a chat with a few locals and a quote for someone else while I’m out this way, all up about 4 hours. A plumber could do this job in 30 minutes, took me about an hour actual work time.

Heavily overgrown roses - pretty much a hedge. After a hard prune looking a bit skeletal and finally the desired result. Roses are very hardy and each stem needs it’s own space to thrive and produce healthy flowers.

Results of a good hard pruning! These roses where like a hedge before I attacked them with a reciprocating saw. Look at them now!!

One of my favorite machines. This little chipper reduces big volume green waste in compact mulch. In this case 4 overgrown lavender bushes into 2 bags. Love the smell of lavender in the morning. Job was part of an overall yard clean up with a new space for a trampoline.

Most people are optimistic which is a good thing 😀. Not so good when they book a job to have their lawn ‘mowed’ and they think it looks like the top pic when in reality it looks more like the bottom pic☹️. I’m not judging, I’ve been there myself. Life gets busy and before you know it your garden is a jungle. Either way I’m happy to do the job but the longer the grass the more expensive it will be to tidy it up. This is my ‘rig’ at the moment. I manage to fit nearly all my gear into the back of this ute and when a job is done I bag the green waste and pile it on top. Can sometimes look like the Clampetts arriving in Beverly Hills! I don’t have a trailer, been avoiding getting one because the Ute doesn’t have a tow bar. A voice in my head says get a tow bar and get a trailer. I’m due for a brand new vehicle soon, a 4WD ute, and then I’ll get a large trailer to carry the ‘business’ in. Trying to keep things simple. Very easy to spend a motza on gear, vehicle and trailer and I’d have to work full time for 10 years to break even! I’m semi-retired, this keeps me active, learning something different and I get a lot of satisfaction helping people. Gradually building a list of regular local clients. Job in Mundijong. Grass had got way out of control. Slash & rake, mow & rake and second mow = 4 hour job.

Small Yard = Big Job
Knee high grass concealing lots of deadfall from neighbors trees, overhanging creepers, lots of rubbish and an overgrown tree. 4 hours work to slash grass, cut back overhanging growth, trim the tree, pick up the deadfall, run it all through the chipper and run the heavy duty mower over the yard twice.
Looks much better now!
