Great news for Bundjalung people.

The Bundjalung Tribal Society (BTS) in northern NSW has today received $445,000 thanks to the NSW Liberal and Nationals Government’s landmark Community and Place grants and Community Development Fund.

BTS Chairperson Tracey King said the funding will link bush tucker training programs into career paths and teach community members to grow their own food, at a time when the cost of living is really biting those in regional locations.

“This is a big deal for us,” said King.

“We’ve had this 30 hectare property in the heart of Bundjalung country for 40 odd years. With our Community and Place grants we want to engage Aboriginal people in creating full and rich experiences and connecting to country.”

Tonight, acclaimed Yolŋu singer Gurrumul will be inducted into the National Indigenous Music Awards Hall Of Fame 🖤 💛 ❤️

This fantastic achievement will continue Gurrumul's legacy and certainly inspire future generations of his people and Australians across the nation.

The awards will be broadcast live on NITV from 7:00PM AEST so make sure to tune in 📺

You can see Gurrumul's stunning portrait on display at The Ian Potter Centre: National Gallery of Victoria in Melbourne until 21 August and at the National Portrait Gallery in Canberra from 1 October.
