The pop up shop is coming together! The bosses are putting in the hard yakka! 💪The floor is painted, shelves going up and ... wahoo ... the fridges are on. 🤩

Guess what? Thanks to your generous feedback, we’re opening a pop-up shop for the Holloways Beach community.

Over the next 12 months, as we rebuild from the fire, you’ll find us in the old hairdresser space (next to where we used to be) from 7 am to 5 pm.

🥳WE OPEN THE POP-UP ON MONDAY, 13 MAY! 🥳

Due to technology issues, we will be cash only for the first few days. We will start small, providing some basic items like newspapers, bread, and milk, then slowly build to provide more produce and products. Please be patient with us as we get this underway.

Hello, Holloways Beach community!

Since a fire destroyed our store, we have been exploring ways to continue to support the community.

We have two ideas – a temporary pop-up shop and a grocery delivery service. We have not done either, so we’ll be on a learning curve!

We are working with the building owner to see if we can set up a temporary shop in the space where the hairdressers used to be. We will have to purchase equipment like fridges and shelving and pass any regulatory requirements, so establishing it will take a little time, but we are open to doing this if there is support for the idea.

Another thought is establishing a delivery service for essential items using our SPAR Smithfield store as the base. We thought this might help the vulnerable or elderly in our community the most, but it would be open to everyone. To do this, we need to purchase chiller equipment and pass the regulatory requirements, but if you’re keen, we are.

Dear valued customers and Holloways Beach residents

The fire at our SPAR Holloways Beach store inflicted more damage than we had hoped. Even though the fire was contained to a 4-metre square area at the back of the shop, the smoke and soot damage to produce and equipment was considerable.

Initially, we naively thought we could be operational again in weeks. However, we met with insurance assessors and the building owners last week, and devastatingly, the entire shop needs to be rebuilt.

A rebuild must occur to ensure the roof is structurally sound. Following this, we must purchase new equipment and undergo regulatory checks. We have been told this will take up to 12 months.

We are shattered! For you and our team. ☹

You will begin to see a professional clean-up team at the store this week as produce is destroyed and disposed of as nothing could be saved. Like many in the community, we now wait for builders to help with the rebuild.

Yes, we have some thoughts on temporary service ideas. We’ll post more on this tomorrow. For now, we console our team. We’ll be in touch again.

Thank you for the outpouring of support you’ve offered since our store had a fire in the early hours of Sunday morning. We are devasted for our staff and the community.

We have spent this week meeting with assessors, building owners and fire investigators to understand what happened and to plan a way forward. Meetings continue with relevant stakeholders this afternoon and we hope to communicate our next step over the weekend.
