Today, Sunday the 4th of August 2024, is National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day. 🎉. It invites all of our communities to show their support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and families, recognising the essential role that culture, family, and community play in the growth and development of every child. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦

This year's theme, "Strong in Culture, Stronger Together," highlights the importance of supporting strong family and community connections to help Indigenous children achieve strong spiritual and cultural wellbeing and to form proud cultural identities. 🖤💛❤️

End the hate, let women compete – Inters*x Human Rights Australia We need to speak up about hateful rhetoric about women Olympic athletes, competing in Paris, who are purported to have innate variations of s*x characteristics.

🧑‍🔬 Participate in Important Research! 🧑‍🔬

Researchers at UNSW are conducting a study on the experiences of migrant gay and bis*xual men who have recently arrived in Australia. This project aims to understand their perceptions and experiences of using HIV and s*xual health services in Australia.

If you meet the following criteria, they invite you to participate:

🔹 18 years or older
🔹 Male (cisgender or transgender)
🔹 Identify as gay, bis*xual, or a man who has s*x with men
🔹 Born overseas and living in Australia
🔹 Recent migrant (less than 5 years in Australia)
🔹 Able to express opinions in English or Mandarin.

Participants will complete an online or telephone interview, which will take approximately 60-90 minutes.

On this special day, 2Spirits, QCGP+, and the Queensland Council for LGBTI Health proudly celebrate and uplift our non-binary friends, family, and community members right across Queensland. Today, we honour the beauty, strength, and diversity of non-binary identities and the important contributions non-binary people make to our world.

International Non-Binary People's Day is a time to recognise and respect the unique experiences and identities of those who don't fit within the traditional binary understanding of gender. We stand with you in advocating for visibility, acceptance, and equality.

We are committed to creating inclusive spaces where everyone can feel safe, respected, and valued. Let's continue to work together to challenge stereotypes, break down barriers, and build a community where all identities are celebrated.

NAIDOC Week is a time to celebrate and honour the rich culture, long history and beautiful connection to land and waterways of First Nations Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. As we come together to recognise this important week, we at 2Spirits, QCGP+, and the Queensland Council for LGBTI Health want to acknowledge that intrinsic link and that sovereignty was never ceded. We walk alongside our First Nations Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities in the work we do and the communities we serve in the spirit of reconciliation led by our communities.

This year's NAIDOC Week theme, "Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud", is a powerful reminder of the strength of our First Nations peoples. It’s a call to reflect on our shared history and our ongoing journey toward justice and equality for all.

We're also excited to highlight the beautiful artwork by Baylee O'Grady, created to celebrate NAIDOC Week here at QC for 2024. Baylee's work reflects the spirit of connection, strength, diversity, and visibility that defines our communities.
