I stopped wearing jewellery for while... // Some time between working from home a lot more, having little ones around grabbing at everything, and losing my engagement ring for a whole year, jewellery somehow disappeared from my every day wear.
While my love of jewellery never faded, *wearing* it turned from a joy to, honestly, an effort.
It's classics like these that brought me back.

That's a wrap! // 2023. What a ride.
A huge thank you for being here this year, for the start of our history-inspired little jewellery store with a difference.

Most gemstones need some sort of work done to them, to make them ready for a piece of jewellery. Whether they're turned into a bead, cabochon, or faceted piece, most gems are at their best only after some skill has revealed their magic.

Ancient Rome // What do you do, when you're in charge, and you *really* like something that's very, very rare?
If you're Julius Caesar, apparently you make a law that bans other people from owning it.
Pearls were impossibly rare in Ancient Rome, yet dearly loved by many. Legend has it, that Caesar tried to curb the popularity of pearls, by making a new rule: that pearls could only be worn by the ruling class.

Reminder // "Once upon a time, not so long ago, pearls were rare. Impossibly rare.
For centuries, retrieving them took the tireless and skilful work of incredible humans. Real life human mermaids that would steadfastly brave the waters to dredge up thousands and thousands of pearls to retrieve that *one* precious Pearl - let alone a matching strand.
At the rate it was going? Pearls were on track to be unheard of.
They were destined only for wealthy collectors, or perhaps even museums. They were to become reminders of a past long gone.
It's only in recent history - since around the time my own grandparents were born - that this changed forever. Innovation abounded and revolutionised an entire industry.
