I've been training in Brazilian JuJitsu at Dark Carnival here in Canberra for about 18 months, after about 4 months of training 3 times a week, I noticed that my 20 year low back instability and 'ni**le' had been resolved.

Does this mean that BJJ is for everybody? Unfortunately, no it does not. Depending on age, fitness and existing medical conditions I'd strongly recommend screening with a functional assessment. We can assist with that at Canberra Soft Tissue Therapy.

If BJJ might be for you then there's nowhere better than Dark Carnival in Phillip, ACT. As of 1 November after the new fit out, we will have a BJJ gym upstairs that will be second to none.

What else is new? This guy! The new coach for Dark Carnival BJJ Rodrigo Silva. A ten year blackbelt from Brazil. Off the mat he's one of the nicest blokes I've ever met. On the mat............not so much! Look out for him on the competition circuit once COVID-19 permits.

Exciting new developments coming soon!

Giving in to arthritis pain will only make things worse. Here’s how to keep moving. 29/12/2019

This is a very straight forward and research backed article.

It seems the myth of ‘no movement is best’ for arthritic conditions is still driven into the psyche of the general population.

But that belief is getting an education now. 💪💪💪

Giving in to arthritis pain will only make things worse. Here’s how to keep moving. Take it easier, if you need to, and try pain relievers or braces or new shoes. But don’t stop exercising.

Remedial Massage & Dry Needling Gungahlin & Canberra We treat a wide range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries and conditions as well as postural pain. Our clients usually come to us for a variety of reasons, but often they are in pain.

Chest mobility and whole body connection in the supine position on the skeleton model | BONEMAN.pro 19/10/2019

We aim to find the biomechanical cause of your pain.

Chronic neck pain or stiffness that is relieved for only a very short duration (1-48 hours) but quickly returns can be an indicator that longer lasting relief can be gained by releasing other zones of the body.

This clip obviously shows how pelvic motion affects neck and jaw movement. This natural synergistic effect is dampened down considerably by tightly bound sternal joints at the front of the chest.

Anatomically, this is obvious to see.

From our clinical experience we have found that deeply releasing the muscles exerting pull on the collarbones, shoulder blades and upper arm bones can release a stubborn neck issue.

Also, releasing the stiffness in the thoracic spine and ribs, will also ease a painful neck.

The muscles of the hip flexors, TFL, pelvic floor and quads all will have an effect upon a stubborn chronically tight neck also.

This releasing effect can be explained by mechanisms relating to:
-Direct anatomical connections throughout the body,
-Biotensegrity,
-Neurological influences,
-Up regulated Stress hormone expression,
-Reversed mobility and stability zones in the body,
-Weak pelvic floor, gluteal and abdominal muscles,
-Inappropriate building of intra-thoracic or intra-abdominal pressures.
- tightness in fascia restricting normal organ movement. (Some right shoulder pains come from a poorly moving Liver!)

Our clinic has a strong ‘Hands on’ Therapy and Exercise Therapy focus.

These are knowledge bases we are thinking from when we treat your neck. We want the best and quickest outcome for you, as well as long lasting relief.

Seated rows for shoulder pain, neck pain and elbow pain conditions.

This is the simplest looking exercise, yet it produces effective results.

Useful in:
Rotator cuff pain
Subacromial bursitis
Shoulder impingements
Computer posture
Chronically tight pecs
RSI arm conditions
Tennis elbow
Chronically achey upper back/Rhomboids and traps.

The thing is:- without thorough cueing for how to correctly do this exercise, the effectiveness can be lost.

The scapula squeeze (shoulder blades drawn back and down into opposite back pockets) is the key ingredient. That is then not let off during the entire exercise.

3 sets til fatigue 1-2 times daily for the first week works wonders. Then progressions must be added.

Best of healing.

Neck strengthening Isometrics for neck pain and instability conditions.

This exercise is useful to you if you have:-
-A computer based job.
-stretch your neck often yet the pain or ache remains.
-have ‘text neck’
-are a therapist.
-rounded back and shoulders
- never been taught strength exercises for your neck.

Start with 3-4 sets of 10 second holds in each direction.
Head/neck alignment is paramount in this exercise. Do it in front of a mirror for visual feedback. 2-4 times a day
Start slowly and gently.

We love treating necks! Soft Tissue Therapy and Bowen Therapy are very effective for neck issues.

Thank you Sonya, this one made us all laugh!🤣🤣🤣
