The theme this year is Strong in Culture, Stronger Together.
National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children’s Day (Children’s Day), is celebrated across the country each year on August 4th, and is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate First Nations children, as well as learn about the crucial impact that culture, stories, kin, and community play in the life of every Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander child.
Children’s Day has been run annually since 1988 and is the initiative of SNAICC – National Voice for our Children.

Allied Health Parent/Caregiver Information Session
In response to needs identified by respondents taking part of the A Village for Every Child’s ADHD survey, the University of Canberra (UC) and A Village for Every Child are presenting an Allied Health Parent/Caregiver Information Session. This session will be delivered by Allied Health Professionals from both UC’s Faculty of Health and Faculty of Education.
Aims to:
- Provide information to parents/caregivers about the various roles and how they can support individuals with ADHD.
- Provide strategies or starting points that families may be able to implement whilst waiting on allied health professional waiting lists for specific assessments and supports.
- Share Strategies about how to access and engage with allied health services when contacting private practitioners.

This year for National Simultaneous Storytime Libraries ACT is excited to announce special guest reader Dr Stephanie Owen Reeder Author
Dr Stephanie Owen Reeder is the author of over 20 books for children, including historical books such as Lennie the Legend, winner of the Children's Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Award, and Amazing Grace, winner of the NSW Premier’s History Award, along with the story collection Curious Kids and Their Amazing Adventures.
Stephanie’s picture books for younger children include Trouble in the Surf and Ghostie, and environmental picture books such as Sensational Australian Animals, Swifty the Super-fast Parrot, and Australia’s Wild Weird Wonderful Weather. She is also an Ambassador for the ACT Chief Minister’s Reading Challenge.
Stephanie will be reading ‘Bowerbirds Blues’ by Aura Parker at our Kippax Library.
