FIVE FUN FACTS WITH OUR VERY OWN NSWVRA CHAIRMAN SAM CHUNG.
Sam Chung has been given his first international appointment, so we gave him 5 fast questions.
1️⃣ Reason/s for becoming a referee
SVL mandatory referee requirement in 2010. Soon became a way to get more involved with the game (and get paid for it).
2️⃣ Most memorable refereeing moment
Being appointed as 2nd referee for the mens gold medal match at the 2018 National Championship Series. Totally unexpected.
3️⃣ Life outside of Refereeing
Senior Investment Manager at Commonwealth Superannuation Corporation. Lynx Club President. Lucky husband and father of 2. Enjoys playing FPL and watching sports/esports.
4️⃣ Favourite Volleyball Team/Player
Kim Yeon Koung - Has a bad back from carrying the national team all the time. Seems a genuinely funny person.
Shin Jin S*k - Watched live at the 2000 Olympics and then had the honour of playing with 8 years later.
Dante Amaral - Revolutionised the fast pipe attack in the 2000s.
Mireya Luis - Just youtube her.
5️⃣ Something you’ve always wanted to try but are too afraid to do?
Visit North Korea.
Great turn out on a chilly night in Hobart for the VA Level 2 Referee Course. Thanks Volleyball Tasmania!

However, the Australian Volleyball Schools Cup will still go ahead from 6-9 December in the Gold Coast. EOIs for referees have been extended until Sunday 7 November so we urge any interested referees to apply as soon as possible.

Volleyball Australia has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 Australian Volleyball League (AVL).
Originally scheduled to be held on the Gold Coast from 2-5 December 2021, current COVID-19 restrictions in place around Australia, impacting travel as well as the delivery of events, has made the decision necessary.

Our Story
BACKGROUND
The Australian Volleyball Referees Commission has previously been a Commission of the AVF Board delivering strategic advice, appointment confirmation and operational support to and for Volleyball officials. With the restructure of the AVF to become VA, the previous structure and scope needed to be repurposed to deliver under new governance arrangements.
Over the past few years, the then renamed VARC (Volleyball Australia Referees Committee), considered a range of options to best deliver officiating outcomes within Australian Volleyball and well as best utilise the skills and expertise of the volunteers that make up and or support VARC.
