Brain Tumour Alliance Australia (BTAA)
Peer to peer support group for persons living with brain tumours.
BTAA is a not for profit organisation that aspires to be the national brain tumour support organisation, focussing on support for the brain tumour patient and their carers, and the oft-forgotten families of patients, which brain tumours affect.
We are looking for people willing to be interviewed by media (radio & TV) to tell their compelling story about living with a brain tumour. Sharing your story raises awareness of the impact this horrific disease has on patients, families and friends. Ideally we would like someone from each state. Could you do this?? If you submitted an impact statement for last years Head to the Hill - half the work is done!! Let’s talk 😀. Email [email protected]
We have secured the services of the wonderful Gail O'Brien as our keynote speaker at this years event. Gail is well known to most in the brain tumour community having experienced firsthand the diagnosis of her husband Chris O'Brien with a wild type GBM. She is also a health professional and works at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse on a day-to-day basis in an executive role as patient advocate.
Brain Tumour Alliance Australia is hosting its second Head to the Hill event at Parliament House on 20th November 2024.
This year we are going inside parliament house to display the hundreds of shoes we have collected and talk to politicians about what matters to the brain tumour community. RSVP is MANDATORY - due to security requirements of entering into Parliament House.

Are you coming this year? At our inaugural event last year the BEST feedback we received was the opportunity the event provided for connection with other people - Friendships were made, conversations were had, momentum was created and determination was seen to improve the lives of brain tumour patients. Would you like to take part? Do one or all three. Head to our website btaa.org.au for all of the links to get involved.
Thank you to everyone who has contacted their local MP. There is still time available if you have not been able to do it yet.
We are asking for help from the brain tumour community, to contact their local MP and ask them to represent them in Parliament, for the BTAA Head to the Hill campaign.

We are getting so excited to meet you all!! It's getting so close - have you registered? Sent your shoes? written to ask your MP to attend? Get your skates on & go. All the links at btaa.org.au - we need all the support we can get if we are going to change the outcomes for brain tumour patients.
A few days ago we posted a picture of our committee member Billy Williams presenting an award to Sian Virtue Griffith for her poster at COGNO. Here is her poster - a brilliant summary of the cognitive journey of brain tumour patients. Fantastic work!
We are going to visualise the impact of brain tumours through the placing of shoes on the lawns. We think that shoes clearly visualise that brain tumours effect everybody regardless of age, gender or background.
But to make this happen we need you to send in a pair of shoes that represent anyone you know (or yourself) who has been affected by a brain tumour.

The winners of the 2024 COGNO-BTAA Lynette Williams award were announced at COGNO 2024. Here is Billy Williams, one of our longstanding committee members presenting the first prize to Sian Virtue-Griffiths from Griffith University for her poster about the cognitive journey of people with a brain tumour.
The award was established in honour of Billy's late wife Lynette who was diagnosed with a GBM. The award is focussed on improving supportive care for patients and carers. It is an enduring and endearing memorial to Lynette.
