When the terrestrial and the celestial combine!

Almost 15 million years ago, a single meteorite impact near Southern Germany melted fragments of the earth and launched them into the sky. They were ejected up to 450km from the collision, into the Moldau River Valley in the Czech Republic. While airborne, these molten minerals cooled together, resulting in the formation of a unique tektite that could not be classified into any specific mineral group.
By the time they had landed, they had been transformed into Moldavite.

Due to the fragmental nature of its formation, finding large, undamaged Moldavite specimens is becoming increasingly difficult.

Not only is it a rare and geologically fascinating tektite, it has also become renowned for its powerful spiritual and metaphysical properties.

The photos in this post feature a single Moldavite specimen photographed from all angles and with multiple light sources (backlit by natural light, backlit with white light, and no back lighting).
