Another great review for A Vicar of Dibley Christmas- the second coming just in from CHMCC's Dave Tune.....

Just home from CHATS ‘A Vicar of Dibley Christmas, The Second Coming’ at the Jetty Memorial Theatre.
Firstly, for once I have had no direct connection with this production other than knowing (and have worked with and directed) many of the cast and crew.
Now for another confession, I don’t think I have ever watched an entire episode of the TV series, only bits and pieces here and there over the years, so I most likely will have missed lots of little in jokes and iconic gags in this production.
But for fans of the show, rest assured that you will have no trouble identifying the characters on stage with their individual foibles and peccadillos.
The split static set offers the cosy comfiness of the vicarage on one side and the more austere council meeting room on the other, with front tabs (P and O.P. aprons for the purists…) providing a radio studio and Mr Hortons office among other settings.
Some atmospheric special effects at the start worked well, and the lighting was generally effective (we are aware that there were issues with not enough working lights being available at the theatre for the original design plot, not for the first time lately…)
The show builds through both acts to a very entertaining and funny climax, with multitudes of typical gags all the way through.
I must mention outstanding performances by Liz O’Sullivan as the titular Vicar Geraldine Granger, and Emily Cooper as Alice Horton. Both actors delivered nuanced performances of the original characters, the Vicar with her dry wit and understated exasperation, and Alice as a complex, enthusiastic but somewhat addle-brained Verger. The attention to detail with expression and accents stood out for me, I enjoyed their work as a comic duo.
The rest of the ensemble cast including at least two newcomers to the stage rounded out the show.
Finally, putting on a community theatre production takes a lot of time and effort, particularly for the Director, and it often isn’t until you take this role on that you find out just how complex and demanding it can be. Congratulations to first time Director Jenny Garratt, and welcome to the ranks of those who have made it happen, well done.
The show has sold well, and you can still get tickets at Jetty Memorial Theatre

A Vicar of Dibley Christmas- the second coming
Review from Director Penny Dennis of Coast Comedy Players.....

My friends and I have just come back from the Jetty Memorial Theatre where we saw the wonderfully funny play, ‘A Vicar of Dibley Christmas: the second coming’.
What a wonderful production by our community theatre group, CHATS. The clever Vicar, Geraldine Granger – the Dawn French role played beautifully by local actor Liz O’Sullivan, and the vicar’s offsider, the ditzy Alice Tinker – a hilarious Emily Cooper –make a fabulous twosome and every one of their scenes is pure fun.
As for the villagers… their performances left us laughing out loud so many times that we lost count.
What a marvellous afternoon’s entertainment.
We just wanted to congratulate CHATS director, Jenny Garrett, and her crew for giving Coffs locals the chance to enjoy some side-splitting humour in our historic theatre.
We recommend everyone get along to see the show which only has four more performances before closing this Sunday afternoon, 4th August.
Treat yourself to a cracking show – and be prepared for belly-laughs galore.
Penelope Dennis
