🚙 ROAD CRASH RESCUE COURSE 🚗

Over the past two weekends, NSW SES volunteers from the Coffs Harbour, Urunga, Dorrigo, Grafton, and Armidale Units came together for an intense and rewarding Road Crash Rescue (RCR) course. 🚨

Our dedicated volunteers honed their skills in gaining access to and safely extricating casualties from vehicles involved in road crashes, including cars, motorcycles, buses, vans, trucks, and semi-trailers.

From using specialist hydraulic equipment (Jaws of Life) to applying a range of rescue techniques, our team worked tirelessly to ensure they’re prepared for any scenario, all while minimising further injury and preserving crucial evidence.

Road Crash Rescue is a critical component of our mission to protect and save lives on the road for our General Land Rescue operators. The knowledge and expertise our volunteers gain through this course are invaluable when seconds count in an emergency. 🕒

A massive shoutout to our friends from Sell and Parker Coffs Harbour for providing the vehicles, location and crushing for our training.

Earlier this afternoon, The NSW SES Coffs Harbour Rescue Unit was activated by NSW Police Force to reports of a road crash on Hogbin Drive with multiple persons trapped.

NSW SES Coffs Harbour responded our Light Rescue and Heavy Rescue vehicles with eight accredited General Land Rescue (GLR) operators to the scene.

Our SES Rescue Operators used battery operated hydraulic rescue tools including the Jaws of Life (Cutters) to free the occupants where they were taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital by NSW Ambulance.

A reminder to the community to take extra care when driving and stay safe on our roads.

🏭 INDUSTRIAL & DOMESTIC RESCUE 🏠

Over the weekend two Coffs Harbour Industrial & Domestic Rescue trainer/assessors travelled to NSW SES Kyogle Unit to conduct an intensive training course.

📚 The training covered a critical unit of competency designed to equip General Land Rescue operators with the necessary skills and knowledge to access and extricate casualties from various industrial and domestic incidents. This training is essential for minimising further injuries and preserving the integrity of evidence at incident scenes.

🔧 Industrial Rescue: This aspect of the course focused on the safe removal of individuals who have suffered accidents in workplaces like factories, warehouses, or building sites. SES Volunteers practiced disentangling casualties from machinery, extricating them from impalements and agriculture equipment.

🏡 Domestic Rescue: The training also covered rescues in domestic household settings, such as freeing children with fingers stuck in drain plug holes, removal of rings stuck on fingers and assisting individuals unable to leave their homes due to ill health.

👨‍🚒 The course required participants to master various casualty access techniques and operate specialized rescue equipment. These skills are crucial for every member of a rescue team.

We are incredibly proud of the commitment and hard work shown by all the participants and our trainer/assessors. Their dedication ensures that we are better prepared to handle emergencies and keep our communities safe.

“Training to support our community”

🔸last weekend NSW SES Coffs Harbour conducted a Flood Rescue Professional Development Day🔸

As the local accredited agency for On-Water and In-Water Flood Rescue, it is crucial for us to continuously hone our skills and stay prepared for emergencies.

The focus on advanced techniques and teamwork will be invaluable during flood emergencies.

The hands-on exercises allowed our members to put their learning into practice and navigate challenging scenarios that replicate real-life flood rescue situations both on land and in water. We were impressed by their resilience, adaptability, and quick thinking when faced with difficult simulations.

“Community Notice”

Coffs Coast It’s sunny 🌞 ☀️
🧡Our favourite days🧡

Be Prepared is our key message!

🔸Our community is urged to prepare their homes and properties.

🔸Ensuring your gutters and drains are clear of leaves and debris is a simple yet effective step in reducing the risk of leaking roofs and water damage.

🔸Removing debris can significantly decrease the chances of blockages, which are a common cause of leaks during heavy rainfall.

🟠 By taking these preventative measures, you can help protect your home and reduce the strain on emergency services during severe weather events.

🟠 Remember, a little preparation now can make a big difference when the storms arrive.
