Its Women's Health Week 2024 and thanks to Jean Hailes, today's topic is 'know your body'.

Self breast checks are advised once a month for women of all ages. Get to know the normal look and feel of your breasts. Speak to your GP if you notice any unusual changes.

Skin self checks should be performed regularly looking for new/changed spots.
Speak to your GP if you notice anything suspicious. This includes your v***a - check out this resource for more info https://www.jeanhailes.org.au/news/v***al-self-checks

If you aren't confident or capable of doing your own checks - book in to see a health professional where appropriate - a skin doctor, GP, pelvic health physiotherapist.

For more info on all the recommended health checks for women check out https://www.jeanhailes.org.au/resources/health-checks-for-women-poster

August is Tradies National Health Month (TNHM) – a time to invest in tradies’ health whether you know one, love one or are one.

TNHM was established by the APA in 2012 because physiotherapists are uniquely placed to prevent and treat the musculoskeletal concerns that can plague tradies throughout their career.

In 2024, Australia is facing a trade shortage and a housing crisis, making the health and wellbeing of our tradies more critical than ever.
Tradies' health challenges

A recent survey of tradies from across the country has revealed the following challenges faced by them in the past year:
🟠Over 90% of tradies experienced work-related injuries or pain in the past year, with 🟠90% of these injuries caused or worsened by work.
🟠76% reported pain significantly impacts their quality of life.
🟠42% described their pain as severe, with some suffering for months or even years.
🟠87% medicate or self-medicate to manage their pain, with 30% resorting to drugs or alcohol.
🟠24% fear they will need to retire early due to stress on their bodies.

Nearly two-thirds of tradies who have seen a physiotherapist reported significant pain reduction or eradication.

Physiotherapy can be transformative for tradies, addressing common persistent issues like back, knee, and shoulder pain that can significantly impact quality of life. Here’s how physiotherapy makes a difference:

🔵Prevent injuries: Physiotherapists teach techniques to work safely and avoid common injuries.
🔵Early intervention: Addressing pain early helps prevent chronic issues and long-term complications.
🔵Enhance quality of life: By managing pain effectively, physiotherapy enables tradies to maintain their productivity and enjoy their daily activities.
🔵Adapt with age: Physiotherapists help tradies adjust their work habits as their bodies age, reducing the risk of injury and prolonging their careers.
