What an incredible opportunity to deliver on country, with the phenomenonal Tiwi College. As always we are so grateful to be here learning, and growing alongside your students.
How good are weekends on the water?
Did anyone else check out DAAF this past weekend? So incredible to see community members from all over Australia proudly present their art.
Community Access this past Sunday looked a little like this for our Zetty! πππ
Tiwi College Community dinners are amazing! On the last day of the week, all students and community members come together for a delicious home cooked meal on the basketball court. Followed by games, sports and plenty of dancing.
Incredibly grateful as always to be out here delivering our workshops, at the same time learning from all the wonderful community members and students.
A huge thank you to the Northern Territory Government for funding this very exciting opportunity.
Today, DYS delivered our Healthy relationships workshop to students aged 3-9 years old. And WOW! The young people blew us away with their knowledge on healthy, strong relationships. Lots of discussions were had around emotions, where we store our feelings, different types of violence as well as discussing healthy, strong people in the community.
We ended the session with each young person recognising someone in their life who is healthy and strong. A few tears were shed by the teachers that's for sure.
Out here all week and so thrilled to be here that's for sure!
Something exciting is happening!!! Each week we will be releasing a "Did you know?" Fact sheet that you can share with your young people.
This can open conversations around Domestic and Family Violence. Not to scare young people, but to create space where prehaps they can share any worries they might have or have seen in their circles.
People think DV only happens behind closed doors. That is not the case, and more likely than not our young people have witnessed DV behaviour from peers without having the language to say so.
A big thank you to Colemans printing in Darwin for updating all our lesson plans. We are so ready to be in 4 new schools next term! β€οΈβ¨οΈπ
In our I Respect and Girl Spek programs, we actively practice asking for consent. Sometimes this can feel unnatural for young people.
Therefore, role playing and acting can be a really fun way to talk about consent for young people who prehaps might never have heard of this concept before.
Look at the way things can esculate from normalising our attitudes or beliefs, and how quickly things can turn into degradation, then assult.
Let's normalise all young people learning about Domestic Family and Sexual Violence no matter their background, their social status or education.
We are HIRING a Domestic and Family Violence Facilitator.
All on the job training is provided.

It was so wonderful to meet with Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care Ged Kearney last week. Ged pledged to invest a $12.5 Million Dollar package that will be rolled out across four years, to help address period poverty and reduce cost-of-living pressure.
The Australian Government will provide free pads and tampons to women and girls living in remote First Nations communities.
The program will significantly help First Nations women and girls living in remote communities, who often have to miss out on school, work or social activities when they are on their period because they do not have access to menstrual products.
Go Ged! πππππ
We are determined to make Australia ORANGE!
Let's make it mandatory for school students to discuss Gender roles, Gender bias, Healthy Relationships, unpack what Consent looks like, what Coercion looks like and of course understanding power dynamics in Relationships.
How can you help? Spread the word. Let your local ministers know we are aligned to the curriculum. We have trauma and DV informed facilitators ready to go!

Of course Domestic and Family Violence prevention programs should be learnt across all year levels. For now we have had the program aligned to the year 7-10 Northern Territory Curriculum. However, we are aiming to have the program aligned to all year levels. Pre-K to year 12. Five years old to 18 years old.
Yes. That's right. You read that correctly.
We know these conversations are crucial to raising young people's awareness of Domestic and Family Violence in our community. We know that it is never to early to start having conversations around Consent, Non-Consent and Coercion.
We know that our young people need the skills, the knowledge and a tool kit to discuss hard topics. Financial, Emotional, Physical and Sexual abuse is rampant everywhere. Education =Prevention.
Send us an email if you're interested in looking at our lesson plans, and how to get this program in a school or community setting near you!

So Safe! are our wonderful funding partners. Darwin Youth Services uses So Safes concepts throughout the I Respect - Healthy Relationship program.
Our program went through rigorous Community consultation in both Pirl and Milikapti on Melville Island.
We had culturally senstive, detailed conversations with elders, community mob and family groups discussing what can be in the program and what is culturally not okay. We have since been delivering the program in Tiwi College for the first part of this year.
We can't wait to share more in the coming weeks.
DRUM ROLL PLEASE!!!!!
Our Healthy Relationship workshops are officially aligned to the Northern Territory Curriculum! β

The Department of Education gave us the go ahead last week and explained in detail what parts of the program specifically are targeted to the curriculum.
How can you help? Let your school principals, teachers, ministers, community groups know about us and that we are officially aligned to the NT Curriculum.
More to come soon!
