📍Mushroom Rock, Rainbow Valley Conservation Reserve, Wurre country, Hugh, Northern Territory, Australia


This rock formation ‘Mushroom Rock’ is on a 1 km loop walk. The walk is suitable for families (but not prams) and is graded a 2. The sandstone formation features a range of natural colours. We completed this walk during the day, fly nets advised as they were friendly🪰 We have been told early morning and evening is spectacular to view the changing rock colours on dusk and we hope to revisit to experience this!

📍Upper Cascades, Litchfield National Park, NT, Australia

We have completed this walk many times and every time it is just as stunning at different stages of the seasons. Located in , this walk is 3.6km return in the wet season when the loop walk isn’t open, 3.3km when the loop is open during the dry season. The walk is graded a Level 4 Moderate to Difficult walk, taking you through rainforest, bushland, tabletop plateau and stunning cascades at the end where you can swim. At the time of taking these photos (mid April) the water is high and flowing - spectacular!

📍Baruwei Lookout Walk, Nitmiluk National Park, Katherine, NT, Australia

Explore the western end of the Katherine Gorge system in Nitmiluk National Park on this 1.8km return hike. Starting from just below the Nitmiluk info Centre, the walk takes about 1 hour and is graded as a Moderate hike level 3. You have the option to walk to the Baruwei Lookout and back or continue onto the Loop Walk which increases the distance to 4.8km in total.

We have taken our kids on this walk to the lookout previously - aged 6 and up and they really enjoyed it!

If you time the walk with boat tour departures you can watch them cruise by below from the lookout. This is great to put the sheer size of the gorge into perspective.
