Monkey Bar Gym Australia
MBGA is Australia's premier functional training service. Blending kettlebells, yoga, body weight and all things unconventional makes us truly unique.
Darth Harry.
A 7:30 workout on a Friday night isn’t ideal.
But if you wait around for ideal, you might be waiting a while.
Solo training is a very different beast from group training.
Pros and Cons to both.
Missing the group training culture of the Darwin gym, but have fallen in love with solo training all over again.
The next big adventure is here 😊📚
Nothing make better content than a sea change + career change + family life 😆 so come along for the ride with us
What could go wrong 🤔🤨
Big love,
Wes, Lex and Zan
And we’re done…..
It’s been an amazing journey Darwin ❤️ 13 years of training, listening, sweating, bleeding, chalk dust, tears, hand rips, blisters and bu****it.
As one chapter ends, another one begins.
New adventure awaits and the podcast.
Big love to everyone who has supported us over the years, I’m sure we’ll catch up soon.
Wes and Lexi ❤️
*it’s ok to be vulnerable once trust is earned.
Connection over Comparison.
Meet, discuss, debate, support, commiserate, celebrate, laugh and cry.
Support yourself and your emotions better by spending your free time with like minded people who actually give a f**k about you.
Building a more resilient mental and emotional state can be achieve with a little bit of pain, and no, it’s never too late to start.
Let’s try a different approach.
On one hand we are tired of our cars being broken into.
On the other hand, we acknowledge that these offenders are only kids.
Kids who most likely don’t have caring parents.
Kids that might even come from an abusive home.
Kids that have probably seen too much violence and have had to grow up too quickly.
It’s not their fault if their parents are drunk AF somewhere and don’t give a s**t that their 10 year old child is walking the streets at 2am.
This isn’t an “us vs them” situation. It is a “do the right thing by your family (regardless of your cultural background) and take responsibility for future generations” kind of thing.
There is a collective anxiety happening from all sides in the NT right now and clearly the Gov isn’t willing, or is unable to make real change.
So maybe the people of the NT can instead.
How often have you said “I just need to start running again” or “My mindfulness practise is going great, I journal, podcast, listen to my meditation app…” and let not forget “I’m going to add in more gym sessions until I feel fit again” etc etc etc
This is a phenomenon that I see regularly where people assume that adding more into their current “life load” will help them to achieve their goals. In my experience, removing or reducing elements to your current “life load” is far more effective and most importantly, maintainable.
Cut out the supplements (unless your absolutely need them for medical reasons) and eat whole foods. Workout a manageable training schedule, then ditch the 8 week weight loss challenge and lastly - instead of listening a digital app to meditate, try spending some time alone, without input (music, podcasts etc) and be with your thoughts. Use this time to file away any stray thoughts and process your feelings.
Anti-perfectionism.
I’ve been circling around a theory lately that involves a good enough/safe enough parenting approach that has been articulated amazingly well be the lads at .
Interestingly, research shows that “good enough” parenting is actually better than perfect parenting, and that “safe enough” is a much better strategy than trying to ensure your kids are 100% protected all the time.
Too often I see parents in our gym, or in my social circles that are crippled by the need for perfection in their lives. Perhaps they are people pleasers or are trying to live up to their own parents expectations, either way the end result is a very unhappy and sometimes unstable, parent.
Lets agree that good enough is actually great and get on with raising confident, resilient kids (and give ourselves a break too).
Cold Therapy has gained popularity in recent times for its well researched benefits.
Research indicates that 11 minutes per week will provide the best conditions for metabolic improvements - but how cold should you go and for how long? Is it 11 minutes in one go or multiple bouts at a shorter time?
A rule of thumb we’ve been using at MBGA is “Time for Temp” ie 7 minutes at degrees, or 9 minutes at 9 degrees etc per session.
Add up sessions over the course of the week until you’ve hit your desired threshold.
This protocol has been received really well and we have had plenty of positive feedback so far, though we do not have the capacity for stringent testing to support this theory.
Look out Sunny Coast, we are heading your way soon.
Lets Go
Best of luck to all involved in finals footy today.
Super proud of the PINTS premier league women’s team. You’ve had a great season and a win today would be the icing on the cake.
You haven’t lived a full life until you’ve had your mate push down on your ass during a pigeon pose.
If you want to experience MBGA this is the last month you will be able to grab a free week trial.
Last chance.
No new members from March.
If you are all about adding kilo’s to your PR’s or inches to your delts, then we are not the gym for you.
If you resonate with the idea of connecting with amazing people through shared experiences, then come on in.
A note I wrote down after my first session with my psychologist last year.
Do you ever have that feeling that something isn’t right or that you are in conflict with yourself?
You are not alone 😊
Freud hypothesised that mental processes may conflict with one another, leading to compromises amongst motives and that many of these mental events occur outside the conscious awareness. He also identified that our actions are determined by the way our thoughts, feelings and wishes are connected in our minds and that many associations between feelings and behaviours or situations that guide our behaviour are expressed unconsciously.
🤔
This year take some time to identify your values and use them to conscious guide your behaviour and you will feel a whole lot better for it.
The key to long term fitness is not destroying yourself every session.
The journey towards better health is a process, not an outcome.
Happy New Year 🥳

#2023
See you in the new year!
Time for the MBGA team to have a break from social media because, well…… it’s not healthy to spend too much time on socials (we all know that).
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
It’s almost Christmas!
Hooray!
The safe word is “cinnamon”.
Flashback to when we had to do stuff we didn’t really want to do in order to keep everyone safe.
There is heap of ways to keep your fitness endeavours interesting.
Think outside the square and get our of the square results.
Rather than looking for the “best gym” try looking for the best people.
Find your tribe.
Engage, connect and grow.
When things feel like they are spinning - slow down, breath and refocus.
Working out is not always easy, and it’s not supposed to be.
“Winning” workouts is bu****it, trying your best is what counts.
One of the only constants in life is change.
You will change.
The people you surround yourself will change.
Lean into change and embrace new discoveries.
Team work makes the dream work!
