Darwin Bushwalking Club

Darwin Bushwalking Club is a recreational club, run on a voluntary basis by an elected committee for the benefit of members. New members always welcome.

The club organises one-day or weekend walks throughout the year as well as occasional longer walks. Most walks are around Darwin, or in Top End parks. The club also meets socially and occasionally runs other outdoor recreation trips such as calm water canoeing and bicycle riding.

Sign the Petition 06/08/2024

Hi everyone, a message from Gamba Grass Roots. Please take a moment to read and sign the petition. The DBC want to see to the protection of Litchfield so we can continue hiking in our beautiful backyard!

Please sign this citizens' petition to help protect our beloved Litchfield National Park!

Our favourite bushwalking destination has a bleak future - according to CDU scientists - unless something is done very soon about the spread of invasive, highly flammable gamba grass. Continued spread of this noxious w**d will make this beautiful Park unpleasant and unsafe to visit.

But action can be taken now to protect the Park's future - action proposed by scientists which is practical, achievable, fully costed and backed up by years of research.

So take a stand now and sign this petition organised by Gamba Grass Roots (a group within Landcare NT) for the sake of bushwalking, tourism and wildlife in the Top End!

Sign the Petition Save Litchfield National Park from gamba catastrophe!

This is why when walking off track we always make sure to notify parks of our whereabouts and proposed routes. Safety when bushwalking is key.

BUSHFIRE - Nitmiluk National Park
There is an uncontrolled fire burning within Nitmiluk National Park that is being monitored and control strategies are being developed.
Walkers on the Jatbula Trail and family members can be assured that if there is any threat to walker safety, the trail will be closed and walkers on the trail will be extracted to a safe location.
In an emergency call 000.

Great news for campers!
More campgrounds are re-opening in Litchfield National Park following wet season closures. And earlier than initially forecast!
Central Valley will open this Friday 24 May and Walker Creek will open this Saturday 25 May.
Central Valley’s three campgrounds are located beside the East Reynolds River in Central Valley.
Each campground has a number of campsites with the option for towing 4WD camping trailers - no caravans or hybrid caravans allowed and high clearance vehicles only in campgrounds 1 and 2.
You must have a booking to enter.

The popular walk-in campsites at Walker Creek will open this Saturday 25 May.
There are seven secluded campsites located along the creek.
You will need to book early as they are very popular.
Each has a fire pit, table and convenient access to swimming.
If you are not spending the night at Walker Creek, you can still enjoy a bushwalk and a swim in the designated day use areas.
Remember to always and check the website before you travel nt.gov.au/parks
Visitors to the NT require a parks pass.

Today is International Women's Day. We have many wonderful women who contribute significantly to our Northern Territory national parks and reserves.

One of them is Amanda Arnold who has been a Park ranger at Nitmiluk National Park for 11 years and we want to celebrate her success. Before becoming a ranger, Amanda had a successful career as a tour guide. Amanda was offered a great opportunity as a trainee to become a Park Ranger with the Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory. The rest is history "I love what I do every day! "

Ranger Amanda has a positive outlook on life "A good work ethic is important- you have to be prepared to work hard!"

"Earning your own money gives you power over your own life, you are number 1."
Thank you Ranger Amanda and all the women who work hard, contributing to the conservation and protection of our national parks and reserves.
